#Visible Stages of Infection/Zombification Progression

I am writing my extended suggestion here to @warm needle's original post from a year ago to highlight the great idea once again.

Currently, when a player becomes infected, the process of zombification occurs internally. It is only noticeable through the debuffs and a gradually worsening change in color perception.

While this system already works well mechanically, I think it lacks visual and sensory feedback for the player!
To make the infection feel more immersive, terrifying, and rewarding to survive, the progression should also be represented visually and audibly.

😞 Early stage:

● Slightly pale skin
● Minor tremors
● Increased breathing rate
● Occasional shivering or light Cough

😣 Mid stage (reduced detection radius of Zombies):

● Darkened, visible veins
● Noticeable sweat and exhaustion
● Fever and irregular breathing
● Blurred Vision due to bloddy eyes and slower reaction time
● Sleep disorders, nightmares wake you up earlier

🤮 Late stage (in this stage, Zombies should completely ignore the player):

● Deeply visible veins and graying Skin
● Shaking hands and unsteady movement
● Labored, rapid breathing and audible heartbeat
● Nausea and vomiting — unable to keep food down (forcing to eat causes instant vomiting)
● Severe insomnia — unable to sleep or recover stamina properly
● Mental degradation: confusion, paranoia, distorted sounds, hallucinations
● Gradual loss of motor control leading to full collapse and death

These symptoms wouldn’t just serve as a timer — they’d turn the player’s final hours into a disturbing descent into madness.

I think this would make the infection something players can see, hear, and feel, not just read as numbers on a status screen — adding depth, tension, and immersion to the experience of becoming the very thing you’re trying to survive against.

Additionally, since there is no cure in the game, this would also create stronger tension in multiplayer scenarios, where other players could visually identify someone in the advanced stages of infection — deciding whether to keep their distance, assist for as long as possible, or put the infected down before it’s too late. 🪦
