Hello guys this is my first post and I'm a new member coming from the steam release, I've loved the game so far and I'm really impressed with the quality and depth of interactions so far, me and a couple of friends played on a private server and we enjoyed the atmosphere and exploration aspects of the game so far. One thing that I believe could be improved, as the title suggests, is that there's no goal for the player once you've established a little base. In games like 7 days you'd have some incentive to explore with the raidable buildings that provide end-game materials, as well as there would be the base defense aspect of it (horde fighting). I missed some of that in the game as there's nothing really to strive for, which arguably might be the vision for this game and that's fine, but I believe there might be some unexplored opportunities in here. Thank you a lot for your time and loved the work so far, wish you the best!

there ARE hordes that generate if you get too noisy or your base gets to a certain size

Yeah but its not the same, in 7 days the hordes get harder cause there's the special zombies. Not saying they should add those here I like the vanilla ones, but you can't really say the difficulty is the same, if you are geared especially with firearms its super easy to defend against hordes.

You can change your difficulty settings, which would alter your game a lot. Turn off respawn of items, increase zombies, turn up zombie health, don't use admin to drop whatever you want. keep in mind that 3 people defending a base makes it a lot easier than one. Start your game in winter with the power off and and no water, with increased zed population and respawn of items off. Fewer rounds forces melee.

Sure I did most of that except zombie health cause making them more spongy dont make it more fun, other than that, the runners are the only spike in dificulty we really saw (and even then its pretty manageable) and just turning off the loot respawn only ensures that the server will eventually end, as for playing with more people (defending with more too) yeah sure, but then again if the suggestion to have more fun or keep engaged is to not play with your friends than something is really wrong about the game?

I get what you're saying but just these settings alone wont help with the feeling of nothing to do it comes after you make a small base and run around the map once or twice. There should be some goal people could strive for, even if its just survival, then there should be more challenging stuff to threaten your survivability (and I dont mean just cranking food/water values) if its just fake struggle it wont feel right.

Literally just some dumb shit like powering a radio tower to request help or whatever could be pretty interesting. Maybe rescuing NPCs, i dont really know.

The dev has a roadmap out for this EA. He has said that missions/quests and NPCs (friendly and aggressive) are in the future. From where it was a year ago to now there is a large improvement. I think once he implements the permadeath game mode it should increase the struggle. If you played other games like green hell or the long dark, this is a lot easier for sure
