#Game resets saved video settings after relaunch.
24 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Just tried this and it does not happen to me (change preset to ultra, change global illumination quality to low, click apply, restart, and it's still there)
This happens to me too. I keep setting it back to Medium but it keeps defaulting back to Ultra. It could perhaps be related to the game failing to load up sometimes, where GPU usage pegs at 100% but all you see is a black screen. Ending the task and relaunching fixes it, but it's back to Ultra preset, perhaps as some sort of backup failsafe.
Yea it doesn't always happen to me but I will say I did notice it happened after the game crashed/deadlocked while loading a savefile (as in caused the entire PC to become unresponsive and forcing me to hardboot the PC).
Possibly relevant: when the load crash happens, I find this in the game log:
[2025.07.08-15.17.11:591][ 2]LogD3D12RHI: Warning: GPU timeout: A payload (0x00000214B4771000) on the [0x00000213EC209740, 3D] queue has not completed after 52.803104 seconds.```
There are dozens of these messages in the logs. When the game does successfully load, these lines aren't present.
I just had this happen to me again I launched the game and it froze. the "ramjet studios" splash screen never appeared. an Epic warning appeared on screen
max allocated ID 31310307, instance buffer size: 16M``` I had to force kill the game. on relaunch the warning did not appear and It was able to progress to the title screen. I immeadiately checked video settings and they were reset again.
I have the logs if you want me to send them
What specs do you have? I've added a possible fix for the next hotfix but no idea if it will work to fix this
Ryzen 5 3600, 32Gb ram, 3060 TI 8Gb, running off an SSD, Windows 10, latest nVidia drivers.
I'll be testing the hotfix on the experimental branch when you next update it.
Sweet thanks
CPU: i7-4790S, GPU: Radeon RX 580, Ram: 12gb, SSD, Windows 10
Not sure if the hotfix is in the current experimental build or not, but it's still happening on the experimental branch.
Steps to reproduce:
- Launch game, it has Ultra preset loaded. Game loads up fine within 20 seconds.
- Change graphics preset to Medium, apply. Quit game.
- Launch game, get a black screen, and the nVidia overlay popup in the top right corner of the screen doesn't go away like it should after a few seconds; screen is not being rendered to. Background music plays for a while but stops after around a minute.
- Find more instances of these in the logs:
[2025.07.11-13.54.55:053][ 2]LogD3D12RHI: Warning: GPU timeout: A payload (0x0000023BFCB30A00) on the [0x0000023B9C829740, 3D] queue has not completed after 57.809058 seconds. - Close hung game via task manager after about 2 minutes.
- Relaunch game, loads within 20 seconds, Ultra preset is loaded.
Happy to upload the logs somewhere if you want them, or to provide any other details.
I'm fairly confident that hotfixes are only for stable branch
I asked dis about that, and he said "experimental always"
exp regularly gets updated and changes made... I've not seen them referred to as hotfixes
"Experimental always"
#vein-feedback message
And in this very thread, "I've added a possible fix for the next hotfix but no idea if it will work to fix this"
Sorry if this comes off as pedantic, just going off what I've been told by the guy himself.
Hotfixes get merged into experimental immediately
Hotfix is out right now unfortunately so you might have to wait a few more weeks
ok, I've just never noticed them referred to as hofixes, just new builds
They get merged in in commits like #git message
No worries, it's not a big inconvenience, and probably difficult to track down. Odd that Ultra works fine though
ah cool deal
I get this consistently now on 0.19h7. Every other time I launch the game it always freezes, the Ramjet splash never shows and I get that "GPU-Scene Instance data overflow detected" warning. e.g. works fine on the 3rd, 5th, and 7th launch but always predictably softlocks on 4th, 6th, 8th launch. and every time I get into the game on the odd launches (the sucessful ones) I see that the settings are always reset and I need to set them again.
I can still play but I have to jump through a bunch of hoops each time before I can play
