I do think that POK just plain makes the game better, but if folks are less comfortable I understand.

I do recommend for folks that have NEVER played it before that Tabletop Simulator is a great way to do it.
But we can also teach you through Discord if you'd like. The bot is VERY good. Have you read the rules?

40 minutes of the best rules review possible.
TI4 is a great game that SEEMS way more complicated than it is. Usually by Round 2 a newbie knows how to do things.
The "optimal" plays come later but we can help on that too.
