The satyr lineage from the Labyrinth Worldbook reads "...the strike deals 1d + your STR or DEX modifier (choose which during character creation) bludgeoning damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. The damage type appears redundant, but the last phrase is the same as the minotaur's Natural Attacks. Was the last phrase unintentionally copied, or should the damage type for Satyr's be different than bludgeoning?

The damage type isn't redundant, it's just taking the whole sentence into account. Normal unarmed strikes are 1+STR modifier bludgeoning damage. Minotaurs and satyrs instead roll a die instead of taking a flat 1 plus modifier for their bludgeoning damage of their Natural Attack. You just chopped the 8 part of the satyr's 1d8 when you copy/pasted there. 🙂
Natural Attack. You have horns that serve as a natural weapon that you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with it, the strike deals 1d8 + your STR or DEX modifier (choose which during character creation) bludgeoning damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Like Cynlan said, normal unarmed attacked is 1+STR
Unarmed Strikes
Instead of using a weapon to make a melee weapon attack, you can use an unarmed strike: a punch, kick, headbutt, or similar forceful blow. Although this is still a melee weapon attack, an unarmed strike doesn't count as a weapon and the damage dealt can’t be modified by effects that increase weapon dice.** On a hit, an unarmed strike deals bludgeoning damage equal to 1 + your STR modifier. **You are always considered proficient with your unarmed strikes.
Good to see a natural weapon block that allows STR or DEX. I’ve been adding the Finesse quality to natural weapons forever.
Oh I see, I thought the emphasized clause was specifically referring to damage type based on how I read it for the minotaur but this makes sense.
Chopping the 8 was unintentional the key is actually out on my keyboard 😂
Thanks for the help parsing it!
Any time! And thanks to AloysiusFett for the copy/paste, I didn't have my books up, but I have a satyr in my group so I knew exactly which part tripped you up. 😄
yep, I figured it would be helpful to have the full text for both mechanics
Thanks for the assist @old quail and @steady maple !
It looks like this questions is resolved, but if there's anything else, @obsidian spruce , let me know!
