#Does Hunter's No Escape work with a bow?

The Hunter's "no escape" ability states that as part of the teleport you can take an opportunity attack if the target is within your weapons reach. "Reach" is a fairly specific term in the game as opposed to "range". If you are using a bow and you teleport to within the bow's range can you still take the oppertunity attack or does this only work with melee weapons? It seems a lot of hunters go the bow route to if it doesn't work this becomes kind of a worthless ability for them.

Ya. Just wondering if this makes it an exception to that rule. I would think the majority of people who take the hunter build go with a ranged weapon so this seems an odd ability for the subclass

#

If you do use a bow and took aim and built yourself around bow use your level 11 subclass feature gets a lot weaker. Sure you may still have a sword but your not built to be as good with it. You would rather teleport to a location where you can take ranged attacks. And you still can teleport there but you loose out on half the ability's power.

#

I do agree with you though. Being that is specifically says reach I don't think this works for our bow weilding ranger which is unfortunate. This ability seems to force hunters to be melee instead of range or at least makes melee the better choice for the subclass

#

Too bad there isn't some kind of "or" option in the ability to account for those ranged weapon rangers. Like or use a weapon option if the target is within range

It specifies you can make an Opportunity Attack, it doesn't specify an exception for Weapons that can't make Opportunity Attacks in the first place.

I don't think it makes Melee Hunter better than Ranged because Ranged is better than Melee.

#

You're just getting a little more evening of the playing field.

#

Opportunity Attacks are intended to bridge the gap between "doing the same damage but from a distance so you're safer" ranged and melee which just puts you in more danger by "theoretically" letting you do more damage.

#

Plus, it doesn't say you have to move closer to them, as a Ranged character you can use it to actually get more range.

Ya. I agree. However, the ability seems designed for staying within melee range of your target. So if you are a bow user this ability just isn't that great for you. So you kind of loose out on a whole subclass ability. I feel like a choice between 2 abilties would have been nice in this spot so both melee and ranged rangers get something useful

#

Sure you can get more range but i just don't love that its better for melee.

#

But I supposed if the enemy is trying to close ranks with you you can keep out of range was is nice

#

so by that design it is nice

ok. thats fair

#

Still think the weapon option as part of the reaction would be cool. Pinning shot and teleport away

I wouldn't like it if it did let you make a Ranged Attack tbh, since Ranged does basically the same damage at like a quarter the risk.

#

The thing with Ranged is you're "supposed" to trade some damage for safety, although ToV and 5e kinda fall short of that, I don't wanna see it become more egregious.

Well the weapon option wouldn't do damage

#

That is why I suggest it. And the pinning strike keeps that theme of getting away from the enemy
