Ok, lets summarise today's bugs:
- Overaul breaks Mouse scroll weapon selection
- Multiple LOD failures on APCs (watch videos)
- M113 machine gun is not useable
- Desert storm + Overhaul combined make building/shovel/weapon ui overlap
- Helicopters still have no UI
- Heli propeller has very low FPS rate

Suggestion:
Improve "observation" system.
instead of permanent observation mark in the radial menu, add
Litte icons next to the map in respawn menu.
You can select between "Vehicle", "Outpost" and "Troops" icon. After selecting, click on the map to place a selected mark there.
They will dissapear after time or when new mark is placed:
Troops - after 10 seconds
Vehicle - after 15 seconds
Outpost - after 2 minutes.
Also if you click on the mark it will say how far it is from your position in meters

I have created an unlisted "dev" version of this mod. The server name is "OHD Vehicle Overhaul Preview". Only 16 slots right now.
Because this is straight up a copy of the normal vehicle mod; you may potentially need to uninstall the normal Overhaul mod to join this server.
You may want to copy the local mod instead of unsubscribing / resubscribing constantly.
The password for the server is BigDaddy because I said so.
Sometimes the server might be on, sometimes not. big oof.

I feel that opening doors is a lot of effort refactoring the vehicles for not much pay off when the view model would be more useful and give more differences between vehicles
Yeah, so the striker and mrap would keep their single optic crows optic and the lav, btrs, brdm, etc would have the view model
No I was going to have it where it would swap the collision mesh, which the vehicles already have to something with essentially no armor where the doors are when they are open. But you still would not be able to throw a nade in it, not without proper interiors.
Ya maybe I might mess with that more. Also I wouldn't need to really refactor anything this would just be adding stuffs.

For vehicle controls, have you tried GHPC? Slewing the turret should work like a joystick, if you have that then aiming on moving targets is way easier than squads system

For hmg I always thought it'd be cool if you had some sort of hybrid system. Where you can only move freely with the mouse in lets say a 25 degree angle in front of you, but you can use the a and d keys to rotate the gun to change where the player is facing. So its like a hybrid system where its awkward to 180 turn and kill someone but you can still make small adjustments

They ruin server performance, that's the simplest way to put it. They bring it to a point where with 6 people on, the server is barely avoiding a crash

The mortars ranging tool doesnt work

using the shovels while standing seems to make it work

it's actually partly because sometimes they are so far away from your camera that they never spawn in on your computer

So hopefully they don't kill the texture memory budget.

- ability to look around
- Artificial horizon
- CAS with useful notifications like
"Pull up" when obstacle is in front of the helicopter.
"Altitude" - when descending speed is enough to 1 shot the heli.
"Bank angle" - when bank angle is too big, like 70-80°

Just in server, Helis need some kinda UI indicator that you're booting u or you've turned off the engine. Also it should be a two second hold of the engine key i think, rather than a tap.

I would like to suggest a whole list of things, either very important that must be added first, or less important, but sould still be added.
First priority:

AH-64 must take damage from impact, not only bullets or rockets
-
Add targeting system (with sfx?). There must be a reticle and a locking circle. When vehicle enters the circle, you can shoot hellfire by pressing rmb, the missile will follow vehicle automaticaly
-
Make ammo limited:
ah-64 single rocket pod carries 19 hydra unguided rockets, so 19 shots total.
Also there are 4 missile pylons on each wing, so 8 hellfire missiles in total. -
Ability to refill ammo must be nerfed. Maybe
Heli payload would only refill when it's standing on the ground on the main spawn -
UI fixes
Second priority:
- Adding a smoke trail for hellfire missiles
- Making a separete apache wreckage model, right now apache uses the blackhawk model
- Add hellfire guided missile . It can be a pilot secondary weapon.
- Hover Mode. Activated upon pressing "H". Allows pilot to use mouse to look around while maintainig Roll and Pitch angle.
I would advise you not to use such phrases because you may not expect anything. 😄

This is why it’s such a good idea to be conservative with updates. When you create N new features, they can potentially have a bug with each other. So the amount of bugs scales exponentially with the scale of new features, new possible bugs being N*(N-1).
So scaling back the features by quite a bit and slowly introducing them might be the best bet. (Which I’m sure is what you’re doing, sorry for the lecture, I can’t help myself I’m old)

The explosion caused by vehicle being destroyed causes a lot of lag. Im talking about that "white smoke cloud" type of explosion. This is probably because current explosion uses a lot of separate particles for smoke and for flying ashes. Perhaps you could instead make use of RPG type of explosion - it uses a single animated sprite and causes much less lag

lmb - fire hydra when in pilot seat (F1)
lmb - fire turret when in gunner seat (F2)
your "point aim" button (check control settings) - fire hellfire when in gunner seat.
Mouse - Roll/Pitch
A/D - Rotate left/right
Your "prone" button - hover mode
You might wanna change the LAV spawner hot key cuse when you try to move a vehichle and yer an admin you spawn a LAV

Yoshi I've been thinking about controls for helicopters and I've concluded:
The controls must be either fully binded to the actions button (prone, jump, lean buttons, etc)
Or they should be independent, not cutomisable and same for everyone.
I prefer fixed controls, because:
- no matter what controls you have, they dont affect the heli controls
- its much easier to explain the controls that way.
For example - me.
I had my prone set to left ctrl, which resulted in hover and down button overlapping each other.
And I really dont wanna change my controls.
This is why I propose new (fully fixed) control scheme:
W/S - up/down (they are unused anyway)
A/D - turn left/right (no change)
H - hover
Lmb - fire primary
Rmb - fire secondary
Middle mouse button - fire hellfire
Q - zoom
E - engine
Note: Control list in the heli ui should be updated to math actual controls
