Be careful, as OHD doesn't allow editor plugins. I was tasked to do them about a year ago but it slipped my mind

To be honest, they wont bat an eye at OHD workshop, it's not making any money, you're not selling the assets etc look at Gmod, they take content from all AAA games and are not bothered about it, due to the fact its community made and doesn't hold any weight to the actual game development
I've made maps on gmod with thousands and thousands worth of assets from AAA games and have been fine
So don't worry, port them you'll be ight

Weight Painting really isn't hard, you just need reference images

there isnt much to be confused about, i would rather have a 'sane' modding community where the work of other people and rights are respected.
I couldnt care less about ripping assets of huge companies, it's something you can do, to look at how they did stuff learn from it.
The red line is redistributing asset without the rights or an explicit agreement.
Valve is known to not care at all and pretty friendly to modders (but again this isnt a Legal advice or a valid legal ruling it's just something that poeple have done forever and valve never bothered taking modders to court)
Other companies 'looks' alright with it : IT DOESNT MEAN IT'S OK TO DO IT , it just means they are not 'threatened' by a little mod that'll be downloaded by a few people. if your goal is to upload a janky mod that no one will play, you are probably fine, the company will never hear about it.
Though it's a bad plan imho, if your mod blow up Battle royale style or Dayz, and your stuff is full of stolen shit... what then?
Also you bring up Starwars, perfect example, Disney is known to sue the shit of anything that moves.... i personally wouldnt spend hours and hours on a mod that has any link to that company or their IP...

And it's not just if you use ripped asset and distribute them. If you use their name in any way, or use any reference to something from their universe, or use any likeness, you know how theses laywers are they can twist anything.
Also if people start doing it with companies, they'll start doing it with other modders work, and it's just creating a bad modding community imho
I'd rather see original quality content made by people , adding value to their mod, and to the game itself instead of having a ton of mods with stolen content , half assed stuff.
You somewhat missed the point, BD make content on anything he wants sure, but you can't speak for everyone when you say the community is against using ported assets. When not even I have really seen complaints and raised awareness about it, and when quite literally the creator of the game is promoting a Star Wars mod...
You personally don't like it, and personally wouldn't make said choices, not the general sum. If modders start taking assets from other modders, they're going to get reprimanded for it and DMCA, it's obviously not tolerated unless given permissions, and I don't see cases like that really at all.
You can make quality content that's owned by an IP, custom by the way, add value to your mod and to the game itself with our without custom assets. To be fair, no disrespect to the respective modders, but some mods I've seen look rather ''half assed'' lol and they're mostly original content.
