the dilemma is, some games have color values going from 0-248 but sometimes, especially in emulators, then they get stretched to 0-256
i've been using the 0-248 line the whole time since it's divisible by 8 and is probably what goes on inside the console of choice, even converting from the latter back to the former
but would it be more accurate to use 256 or 248 coloring? mainly in referring to games from the (as far as i know) SNES, GBA, DS
#What is accurate colors for a sprite in a rip?

People won't probably notice if you don't but use the 248 coloring
There are some very specific cases where this won't be the case to begin with on DS though
I present to you the thing
But it's not common
i see the thing but it still follows max-248 rules so idk why you gave this to me-
While it does, it doesn't follow the normal rules
i'm also a little curious on the specific cases on DS
oop i found some pixels that are a little off on the rgb values
Well, with this one, it comes from a game called Cocoro no Cocoron. While this looks like a sprite, in the game it's actually saved as a model, it has a bigger palette than usual.
While some of them follow the rule without any issues, some of the textures don't do so much
And have some anomalies
hm ok. that's a very specific edge case i haven't seen yet, if it can even be called an edge case
You know what you can just forget about everything I've said because I've discovered a quite harsh truth
It does still follow the rule perfectly
This is an apicula issue
does this still count as following the rule or nah, B value is off by 1
This is going to piss me off for a long while now
man i just exposed the harsh truth to you completely unwillingly
im gonna implicitly annoy you every time
I compared the apicula rip of one of my models to the textures I ripped manually myself apicula fucks the values completely
Ugh that's such a pain in the ass
NOOO i somehow shared the annoyance
welp to be honest it's better that it's known as soon as possible than later
also i guess if i imply things within my brain i guess this rule could also work with the NES and Genesis as well but i don't think i have much experience with that
As soon as like 800+ models I have ripped ☺️ I'm going to destroy apicula
Back to re-ripping all of the Tongari Boushi student textures manually I guess
oh god better get to it
or at least better find a tool that rips it better automatically
Iirc they are not the same
They are in packs
With every chunk of the pack LZ11 compressed I have to do it all manually
Gladly though I actually don't have to do that because I was smart to keep the raw copies of everything
But I still have to go one by one which is annoying but nowhere near as it would be if I had not done that
nah the genesis divides in 4s and not 8s i checked again
welp
g'luck on that, i'm gonna manually fix the Superstar Saga battle ratings revision's colorings when i get to it
I know Saturn does do 8s because of my behated
Thanks 😭
Hopefully maybe I can sneak some animations alongside the models this time around
ngl it honestly feels like if i lit a bank on fire so i can withdraw my $5 from it
also! you mean animation gifs right
oh for models never mind
im not in the models space
I found a few animations that do work with the models I've ripped a while ago but the textures are all inaccurate because of apicula
sucks
The only reason I realized this is because the moment I noticed something was not matching right with the math on the values even on the other bit depth I compared the apicula texture to the face motion file (which I ripped myself because of the lack of BMD0s)
you keep quite a lot of manual backups
One is messed up the other is completely fine
And it's still so stupid yet so infuriating
They look the same yet they are not the same
Tell me about it I have like 8 copies of all of the Miitopia models because I keep breaking them while modifying them sometimes
i might sound like someone you already heard this from but like
could you just like, not save the model while modifying it
and you close it and open it without saving and it is unaffected
I hex edit them
A backup is already made of them by default but sometimes I already break more over the messed up model, also lots of scrapped retextures I've done in the past, nothing that has really anything to do with ripping (even though I could probably upload almost all of it if I wanted I don't recall the Miitopia page being very complete)
