trying to make a custom recipe for the boats. I got the oak boat to work, but for some reason only works when the file is named notch_apple.json, because i used another pack as an outline.

I've not been able to get the birch boat to work at all.

Ok

What is the overlay_58 directory for?

the pack i downloaded had it.

Ok, you can probably remove that

#

Unless you intend to keep compatibility with previous versions

#

And you probably want all the recipes in the custom namespace, not one in your one and one in the Minecraft one

#

Actually, is this your first datapack?

second

I would suggest instead of using another pack, you just build it from scratch

#

It's probably going to be easier that way, as you'll understand exactly what every bit does, as opposed to just copying it from someone else

Once you make a datapack from scratch, you’ll find it’s really quite easy.

#

As for the recipe, I can’t see anything immediately wrong with it. Try removing it from the Minecraft directory and making your own.

#

Or put it in the same spot you put the oak boat.

Alright. If i make more datapacks ill try and make everything from scratch.

I figured something out, it works now, BUT i have to /recipe give myself the recipe. I am entirely overwriting the recipe by puting it in the minecraft folder.
