Ice spikes are, as far as I'm aware, hardcoded to only spawn on Snow Blocks
Regardless of what you have in your placed_feature
Hardcoded means no
So I can't make like a configured feature that copies them? I know the configured feature refers to something else
Like it just says "type:" "minecraft:ice_spike"
The configured feature doesn't refer to anything else, it's just that that feature type has no configs
There's a few feature types that are like that
And unfortunately it means they are not configurable at all. Can't change what their blocks are made of, their shape or size, or in some cases, what their required spawning conditions are
So no, you can't make something that behaves like them, at least no exactly like them.
You could either forgo that exact shape and create something that gets the same vibe (trees work well, they're like the best feature in the game), or you can make the surface of your biome snow blocks so you can place the ice spikes, and then use a feature to turn the snow blocks into something else (though that can affect chunk generation speed)
No, we only have access to the features Mojang provides us
I'll probably just do the snow block thing then
But like I said, trees are really great for unique shapes
But they're always tree shaped, right?
Cause they have a lot of options for both trunks and leaves. You can make all sorts of things that don't even look like trees
Not at all, let me see if I have an example on my phone
Oh ok, I made a custom tree before but it was just copying the shape of existing trees
Unfortunately I don't think I do, but yeah. Trees are cool
Oh yeah I guess biome gen datapacks do it all the time
Again it won't be an exact match, but you should be able to get something that hits the same feeling very easily, and made of the same blocks of course
