you can't skip altered as f2p, nor if you're a whale. Well, you can, but it will hinder your account one way or another, but mostly dps-wise.
the problem is, if you are an f2p, it's harder now to maintain good "balance" on your account, because altered now feels more like a roadblock that you can't rly ignore.

you locked in one element anyway, altered is just extra step
stop gaslighting people that they can pull whatever they like in tof. it doesn't work here like that, since all your elemental damage comes from gear, not weapon, and you can't do shit about it, if you don't have perfect gear with all elements on it
and altered team is probably the biggest f2p trap you can think of, since it's dmg is shit compared to even volt
