Glad someone else feels the same. I feel like all the people that used to enjoy the Ezio trilogy jumped ship and buried AC a long time ago, given how many identity shifts its gone through
Didn't help that a change in leadership at Ubisoft kinda led to the scrapping the modern day part (I.e. ||killing off Desmond||), followed by a "fuck it, we ball" by returning to modern day significance with a protagonist that ||only lasted 3 games||
And that's before you look at the absolute state of the series. From tactical assassination stuff with a plot about new world orders, to...Unicorn spears, feather duster hammers and big budget boss battles?

Totally and they have. I stuck most of it. I think the last game I finished might have been Unity. Black Flag was good too. I did get the last 3 I think, the one Egypt - I never got far, Rome one I can't remember if I started and Viking one - so boring from what I played.

Yeah I think it went a little all over the place like they didn't know what to do with it after Ezio. I didn't even know there was that stuff in mirage! I did not get that one. But that's so random!! What that is BS! It's such a shame because it could've had a great series but they just decided I think to not come up with good enough stories or game play and just turn it in to a cash cow and try to release one every year or so when they ran out of good ideas ages ago.

The games were fun, but not in the way I remember AC being. I loved how the countering and guard breaking system worked. No levels. No percentage based damage. No modifiers. Just purely:
Guy attacks.

And it was in fact confirmed. Patrice Desilets, who I think headed the original Assassin's Creed game and basically shaped AC from then until Revelations, they quit halfway into 3. Internal bad blood meant that spite and justification resulted in the end of AC3 being rushed to hell at the end

Yeah I get what you mean. They changed the mechanics too much I found. Yes exactly! That was so much better and more fun!! I loved playing like that. Like I think with the Egypt one I though "I won't do side quests and just do main story" and it literally wouldn't let me as it said I had to be a certain level to be next part of game and I think I just gave up. I might go back eventually but it annoyed me!

The older games were way more simple in that regard. Sure you had weapons with 1-5 damage, 1-5 speed, and 1-5 combo (whatever that meant) as stats. But you could literally finish the game with your starting gear, with barely much trouble
Egypt (Origins) started a very bad trend. Greece (Odyssey) went wayyyyy too far with it, with England (Valhalla) toning it down more but no adding in a Dark Souls style stamina system
But yeah. Patrice, being the person that raised the series he came up with, probably couldn't bear to see AC get railed by Ubisoft's sudden shift towards corporate greed in the early 2010s
This is literally how Prince Of Persia as a series died. The original creator didn't like how Ubisoft was commercialising his beloved series, so he left Ubi and revoked their right to use the PoP IP. Sucks for die-hard PoP fans like me but serves Ubisoft right
But yeah. Layla Hassan's first involvement in the series was actually the AC movie (with Michael Fassbender). It was retroactively made canon that Layla designed that gyroscopic Animus from the movie
Anyway, she's an Egyptian woman that literally goes to a cave in the desert to dig up the remains of Bayek (Origins' main character) and relive his memories to find out how the Assassin Order, or rather, the Hidden Ones, formed. She uncovered way more than she should and was eventually recruited as a field operative for the Assassins in the modern day
That's all I can say without spoiling much
Like believe me, Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are very much worth playing...but only if (as a fan of the series as it was) you can suppress the good old days
Call me extreme, but I grew up on the AC games. Very near and dear to me

Layla was definitely interesting, but she felt flat in many regards. I could tell that they planned a lot more for her, but I think the series took yet another massive turn hence ||they killed her off...technically||
