I would go with old used buisness laptop and using stuffs like rendering and games over cloud ||
(or as long u dont work on intense project e.g. high resolution for PS/AE or high amount of layers PS)||
...the issue is that most ppl, when they ask if it's enough, don't have a previous device/experience to compare it to - either they are used to do a lot desktop, ...or did just work on few stuffs on it, ...or they are going pre-buy a device, even before first lecture has started. This is why many ytber recommend macbooks, as it's an absolute non-brainer for students who are in the adobe ecosystem or some heavy expensive windows nowdays.
My general advice is always to ask students or even teachers/professors how the software runs (difference between versions and sometimes licenced)....
