Hey! I’ve put together a detailed concept for improving hose management inside the ship and bases.
The idea is called Invisible Piping and focuses on reducing visual clutter without changing the core gameplay.

It includes:
-linkable ports
-optional rigid, physics‑free pipes
-a heavy multi‑resource hose for ship‑to‑base connections
-a short rigid connector for clean machine hookups

You can find the complete write‑up (including explanations, structure, and all details) here as it is too long for that post:

Would love to hear your thoughts!

I would also say maybe these kind of modifications require the ship to be docked in a Sanctuary giving them more purpose for complex ship upgrades and the way we pipe the ships now currently will be more of a temporary solution....

While I agree with the motivation section that a lot of time is spent arranging things aesthetically, I have to ask ... is it not rewarding for you when you succeed?

Do you think there's a way that making good cable runs could be more rewarding, instead of finding a way to eliminate the logistical need? I like a lot of the ideas I've seen of being able to build rigid conduits.

I think once you introduce high-tier metals as a component, you are already out of scale with 150% of cable cost. I'd never hesitate to throw 20 5x cable builds into production if I have less than 100, without checking stock. But I might maintain a bare minimum if it took even one unit of aluminum or silicon.

maby now thinking about it maby a big cable or hose with all the parts in it so Diesel Electric Oxygen Petrol Methane and water in one big hose for more costs ofc

and then with a box with outlets or inlets

i have at exodus station 3 lines going up oil methane and oxygen and one down diesel and its spagetthi becuase u cant place em neatly becuase there is no space

You can run multiple fluids or gases in one hose, and they'll join and separate at the right places. Eg, oil, diesel, and petrol can use one fuel cable.

Dunno if that is intended or if it will stay, though.

Yepp. I dont like it, but that is actually the case.

i would prefer some color coding for gas and petrol pipes
