Sorry but I AM DONE!
I'm tired of things sliding around (or off) my boat.
I'm tired of all my hoses coming diconnected..
I'm tired of things on my boat suddenly being connected to where I am docked and staying behind when I leave.

But most of all.....
Got hit by the stuck boat issue......because i was in contact with the dock.
Did the whole swim away routine.....nope.
Did the whole dismantle everything routine.....nope,
Tried the whole full power and cycle the rudder routine.....nope.
Swim around the boat and clean up any debris in the water {and there was some}.....nope
Finally, randomly, {three hours later} I got free. Decided that i would anchor (as opposed to using the mooring lines) at the next station half a boat width away from the structure in order to prevent whatever issue is causing this.....no.....no.....no.....no.....NO!

Stuck in the water half a boat width away from the structure and boat is not even rocking with the waves, Stuck WORSE than any of the previous THREE TIMES i have been stuck.

Yes, this is the fourth time this has happened. I am spending more time frustrated than i am entertained, I understand this is "early release" but I am DONE.

I am extremely disappointed. I mean, I LOVE the concept. It"s just too frustrating.

Until this game hits full release I will not look at it again. I am already past the 24 hour refund period, else i would get my refund and forget about this game. For now I guess i am out $35.00 for a game that is absolutely unplayable, Really a shame!

Recommendation: 1/10
Great idea, great graphics, really cool storyline.....but i play games to relax.....not fight with the game function.

so again.....I"M DONE

You seem to forget that this game is not in a full release state. While I understand your frustration, this game is in early access. You accepted the risk when you purchased the game, just as I did. I've been affected by a lot of the bugs mentioned in your OP, but coming to Discord to complain about it does absolutely nothing. Patience, on the other hand, will see all these issues fixed/addressed. Stop expecting a polished game any time the game says early access.

river trail
#

I am NOT expecting a fully polished game. The problem of which I spoke has made the game impossible.
Having to redo/rebuild on a CONSTANT basis is frustrating beyond belief.
As a reference, I have been gaming avidly since BEFORE ANY CONSOLE EXISTED. I have played many games in early, beta, alpha, and even before public announcent. Yes, they all have bugs...some serious but when over 50 percent of my game time (over 110 hours of TLC) is redoing what I have previously accomplished or have to restart due to unresolvable issues (5 restarts) it eventually becomes unplayable.
I actually EXPECT bugs....buuuuut.
I am not trying to start an argument but perhaps the Devs could have released this in alpha.....where we don't have to pay for a game that is basically unplayable. I don't mind doing that kind of thing...testing.....but to be asked to PAY for that kinda sucks.
And again...I understand FULLY what early release is.
This however is not early release....this is more alpha/beta testing.
And as stated...I have done and would be willing to do a/b testing but thwre IS A DIFFERENCE between alpha/beta testing and early release.

Early Access is a modified version of the older alpha-beta-release path, the Early Access path involves being more functional (potentially) than the older path, but it is in many ways still an Alpha, many EA games even label their versions as alphas (not all); as izaak mentioned ARK was in EA for a fairly long time and it showed (early on anyway) then they kinda seamlessly went to release, it was nice tbh; on the other hand 7 Days to Die stayed in EA (and calling all their versions Alphas) for at least 7 years and multiple core gameplay guttings (rebuilt stat/skill systems, everything but the vague concept of a survival crafting set in a zombie apocalypse) before finally "releasing"

Also in many EA games they're building a game on an already published and proven engine (such as Unity or Unreal); but not always

in short: The old alpha-beta-release path is not really equivalent to the Early Access path; in fact the only relatively recent game that off the top of my head went through the alpha-beta-release path specifically over the more open EA path was Dual Universe (which I participated in the closed alpha, but quit at beta)

#

also back to the original point; I'm not sure what triggers the getting stuck, but worth noting I haven't gotten stuck once or had anything slide off my boat once, but I've only been playing a couple days, I haven't used mooring yet (because I saw posts advising against it) and haven't had any issues with my anchors

#

I did make sure that when I was saving to exit that I did so with my boat away from stuff

river trail
#

Alpha/ Beta used to be for finding the BIG bugs in a game (like the mooring/sticking bug mentioned above.). Early release meant not all areas were open ( unfinished zones etc.), the storyline was not complete, spell lists were not complete etc.
But Major bugs were mostly eliminated.
And here's where I make the distinction.....Alpha/Beta testers did not have to pay for the game while testing. Once the game went public, they, like everyone else were expected to buy the game (I got a few discounted and even a few for free for my time testing).
Now it seems like the devs are CHARGING us for being testers. And THAT is what irritates me. If I am going to play....I wanna play. If I am going to test, different story.

harsh belfry
#

Then don't buy anything that says early access, you'll get what you want.

I've had the items becoming connect to where I'm docked rather than my ship, but I realized it only happened when I built items really close together. Spacing things out a couple feet fixed the issue for me... at least so far. In almost 50 hours, that's the only bug I've found so far.

lyric kite
#

Alpha not being a purchase depended on the game - some games allowed players (as in, not employees) to buy in early (and it counted as purchasing the released version too) and play/test the alpha and put in feedback; others stuck to in-house alphas where it was the devs or dedicated testers; Dual Universe did kinda a hybrid, we bought the game, but it was a closed alpha in that we all agreed to an NDA about the functions and functionality of the alpha versions, though to be fair DU was recent enough that EA was already a well established and common thing

Seriously? Complaining about issues in an early release game is silly. Report the issues and attach save files so the devs can look into the issues. Why on earth would someone pay for a EA game then be upset about issues. I too get frustrated with the issues you mentioned but I fully expected problems and enjoy helping bring those issues to the devs attention so they can correct them. I've completely run out of thing to do in game but I keep coming back and trying new ship layouts and just experimenting with the game. If I find an issue I haven't seen mentioned already, ill make a quick post with attached save file and move on. So far, I haven't encountered any bugs that haven't already been posted on many times and to be honest, I dont experience 3/4 of the issues reported at 100 hours of play.

lyric kite
# harsh belfry Then don't buy anything that says early access, you'll get what you want.

in principle I agree with that, and I have to remind myself on occasion that the game I am playing happens to still be in EA; happens with a lot of the games I buy, and I have no problem with that most of the time (I did have a problem with Joel from The Fun Pimps back in the 7DTD alpha days but that's another story); but at some level it's fair to point out that a LOT of games nowadays do the EA path and it can feel like you're cutting out a ton of potential games by ignoring anything still in EA; I'd certainly say be consious of the fact a game is EA and look into it's status before purchasing if you don't want something that is still in very early development

I've had most of the issues OP is ranting about, but I can see it's going to be a great game so I'm not crying over the money spent. I do agree that the recent big update is in a lot of ways a disaster and it's unfortunate that it dropped right before most industry devs take the month of December off.

But they'll be back and I'm sure will hammer this game extra hard for all the headaches the update caused.

whatever label they put on and unfinished product , its a gamble in all cases and not realizing that is ignorance . The defenition on EA/beta/alpha or whatever is done indiviually by the diffrent game companies on how they precive thier product . But i do think that adding to much content while bugs are running uncontrolled is an insecurity of game companies fearing that the game will be forgotten . Not saying this apply to channel 37 directly ,the update 1 had limited content and was to fix bugs aswell , but it also did bring new bugs ... so be patient understand the product state and many "old" bugs are crushed and new have been found , its not more bugs now then at the release.

Ok...let me settle this.....
The "boat stuck" bug.......
Game went into early release:
November 6.
First report of "boat stuck" bug:
November 8.
Since first report of bug:
Hotfix(s)
November 10
November 14
Major update:
December 16
None of these three fixed the problem, or even seemed to reduce the frequency of the problem.
In my opinion, an issue where you are unable to move around the map (therefore making the game basically umplayable) is something that has to be addressed above ANYTHING ELSE!
My reasoning for this opinion?
If you have a game that is unplayable, do you even have a game to play?

Dito, I have 276 hours on the clock. Occasionally there's a problem with the power supply, so you shut down the game completely, restart it, and continue with the game score. Or something has slipped in and is causing the boat to capsize, so you look for it, remove it, quickly check for loose wires and cables, quickly rewire them, and the game is up and running again.
I had no real problems, such as crashes, once at the beginning, but since then everything has been running smoothly. I use Intel with Nvidea, Win11

We are more than aware of the common bugs, very sorry about that and the devs will continue to work to fix them. We cannot be expected to fix every single bug first try and not every hotfix or patch attempts to fix every bug 😐 The majority of issues have known workarounds that are not much hassle to implement for players πŸ™‚ we need players to work with us rather than against us, we appreciate the feedback and hope you can stick with us πŸ™

#

I've gotten so use to the workarounds that when the issues get fixed, that might feel like a bug itself. You'll never get stuck again if you don't pull your ship tight against the dock with the mooring line and leave them attached. Pull up close enough to the docks that you can jump to them with the mooring line, drop anchor and wait for your ship to stop, jump across and connect the mooring line (just one works well), jump back into your ship and raise the anchor and wait for the ship to get pulled towards the dock and just before it makes contact, drop anchor and disconnect all mooring lines and you'll never be stuck again. Also a added benefit seems to be no more storage crates falling off walls / ceilings and no more cables, connectors or equipment magically getting attached to thin air. Once you take the time to figure how to work around a few major issues, most of the smaller ones disappear as well. People deserve time off to enjoy the holidays so maybe the early release should have waited until the first of the year so the dev team could be available the address issues but seriously, its only been a few weeks. I'll be completely on your side this time next year if 90% of the major problems are still present but I doubt that will be the case. I suspect the team will be hitting it hard in the next couple months and things will quickly improve.

I feel like OP's post put a lot of player's backs up, which is what I was seeing here.

While I haven't really encountered any major issues other than the flamethrower bug that was fixed, I have had issues with the boat merging with the dockside ladder and the anchor merging with the dock...

Provided some interesting theatre trying to get it free.

I have had things get stuck in places that I hadn't checked before (those night bugs get everywhere and the biomass they produce cause issues with the boat, whilst hilarious to watch my vessel sink because of the physics involved, it does raise concerns.

Maybe your boat gets stuck because of something? It may be worth checking every nook and cranny.

A lot of the problems are likely due to object physic still being enabled on player crafted/placed object. I notice if you place a lot of object that still have physic enabled after being placed, performance takes a massive hit even on my 9950X 64 GB RAM RTX 4080 Super multi NVME SSD PC (Game is on 1 SSD and Windows on the other so they have full SSD bandwidth). Hoses/cables, Extensions, lights, etc still have Physic enabled after being placed. The lights are especially bad, they fall over, move around, get pulled on by the power cable, get knocked around by stuff you carry, yourself include, enemies, etc. They also push back against you if you try to pick them up and move them, really frustrating. Once the performance starts tanking from all this unnecessary physic calculation being done, stuff starts breaking off the ship and even buildings. I had it happen at the Lazarus Complex. A few Cable Extensions went through the wall and disappeared behind the big elevator on me. I will put this in CAPS for attention. DO NOT USE THE MOORINGS to tether your ship to a dock. Just use the anchor. They cause the ship to get stuck under those tire fenders in massive waves and cause stuff to break off of your ship. It happens far less to me now that I stopped using them. I had the bow of my ship facing straight toward the sky one time because of it.

#

I would like to see world objects like bed/chairs/desks/tables/etc all lock in place too like when you place a crate, it makes that noise indicating it locked and won't move. This way we can collect/hoard stuff and roleplay and make a "home."

I place stuff on the wall of the cabin inside and out, but not the outside of the hull like I've seen in some videos.

#

I seen similar with the game "Forever Skies in the past when you start building more and more the engine struggles to keep up. That game has gotten a lot better, but this is definitely a physics thing. This game is very CPU hungry. I usually get 5060 FPS at 3440x1440 Ultra settings but when I go to the Oil Ring or Lazarus Complex where I have huge bases, FPS drops to constant 20 and the visuals get fuzzy. The physic also gets weird, player character gets floaty and you bounces around, very unresponsive.

Ok....lemme give it one last shot at my grievance.
I have been told by several folks here that there is no difference between alpha/beta/early release.
THEREIN LIES THE PROBLEM!
Devs want us to BUY their UNTESTED game.
Want me to test your game?....sure, I'll be more than happy to....just don't make me BUY the game.
Label the game as alpha/beta and let me have it free. I am more than willing to test for you.
A good recent example of thus is Pantheon, Rise of the Fallen. Released as an early release....not all zones open yet, still balancing character types/skills etc. A fully functional game.....with more content to add. I was more than happy to buy this game as it is functional.
Caretaker, on the other hand, is (old school here) at the late stage alpha, early stage beta. As I said, I am more than willing to a/b test your product.....just don't make me PAY to do so.

I just saw two thing break stuff off my ship live. If you dismantle something, say there are two solar panel right next to each other and you dismantle one. When the resources return to you they hit the other one and break it off the ship. If there's a 3rd one next to it, tat one will get broken off too shortly afterwards as the 1st one the broke off hits it. If you are carrying around stuff like say a bed for decorations and hit something too much, that will break stuff off your ship. So, it's caused by collisions.

The performance issue is caused by building too much stuff, mainly hoses that have physics that don't get disabled once they are placed causing your CPU to get bogged down. These are probably the 2 biggest issues that need resolving ASAP as they serverly impact gameplay and will cause people to quit or just not by the game if they see videos of this happening.

Heck, you can see it for yourself in multiple YouTube videos i been watching. It's all over the place. I like the game, it has great potential, but you only get 1 first impression. I am submitting tons of feedback in the in-game feedback option, because I want to see the game succeed. These issues need to be resolved ASAP as they are game breaking. No one wants to have to redo stuff because stuff breaks off the ship and no one will put up with the performance issues because you can't build too much stuff. Forever Skies had a similar issue early on and I was an early adopter of it too.

EDIT: And sorry, but slapping the words "Early Access" on everything does NOT by any means people can't complain or go off like the OP. Stating "Early Access" is NOT a value agreement against his complaint. Let's be clear, people are feed up with developer throwing those words around and expecting people to pay for stuff that is seriously broken. Just look at the disaster known as Starfield. A massive AAA studio and made a boring broken loading screen simulator.

That would be nice, a buildable outlet you can place on the wall. Having to build cables/hoses everywhere is a pain. Add a option menu too to change what they are like exhuast/oxygen/methane/etc. so you know which is which. Also an option on hoses and cables to mark bends and stuff so you can make the hose router neatly would be nice instead of having to place extensions at all corners/turns.

I think it's possibe, you give the ports a proximaty like chest have for crafting from. OP, no need to announce your exit. If you're done you're done. You can go without saying goodbye to any of us.

You keep notating that you're an ancient human whom saw the fires of creation, so that means you refuse to accept that change is a constant and that definitions can change. That's okay, make sure to let the nurse at your home know so they can help you work through your anger.

Seriously though, the gaming industry has changed. Many games are paid for EA games with unresolved bugs. Sometimes fixing one bug creates a new issue that might be worse. Sometimes the major bug that has existed since release hasn't been solved but other smaller bugs have, hence the patches not fixing the bug you want them to fix. Plenty of people either haven't encountered the bug (I haven't been stuck yet but I'm barely into the game) or know how to easily enough avoid or resolve the issue.

Frustration is okay, venting is okay, getting into a pointless argument with strangers online because "I'm from the 1700's and know better than you" is not okay. Take a breath, eat your oatmeal, and calm down.

river trail
#

And you GodAwful bring to the forefront EXACTLY what I am upset about.
To quote you directly "definitions can change".
THAT IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM!
How can we have a common frame of reference for communication, much less commerce, if definitions change. If you go to buy a "new" car and when you show up at the dealer it has 35K miles are you still gonna buy the car?
Does the dealer have the right to "change the defimition" of new, or is new something that is flexible in meaning?
We have to have a commonality in language....unchanging meanings to words else we have no commonality, no way to communicate effectively.
And as a last comment in this post.....
Why the personal attacks?
So yea.....I'm an old fart...so what? I was pointing out that I have been around ging for many decades and am not a newbie concerning a/b testing or new release. I NEVER inferred I am better than anyone, and made NO personal attacks in any of the posts in this thread.

I haven't had issue with crates surprisingly. It's possible to stack them 3 high from the floor, the large ones. It's just a real PITA as you have to look for the "snap" or "lock." When you place the first crate on the floor, you will see a yellow spark at the base of the crate and hear a noirse. When stacking the next two crates, you have to keep moving them until you get the spark and noise to confirm the crate properly snapped/locked in place. It's very finicky and sometimes takes forever. I have 2 crates right now that are refusing to snap. If you open and close the crate and it moves around, it didn't snap/lock in place.

One thing I've noticed a lot of people seem to overlook is that the way games are funded has changed tremendously over the past 40+ years.

I, too, have been gaming since well before the consoles were a thing. Games have become astronomically expensive to develop, and without the EA path, some games would probably never see the light of day.

I, for one, find myself moving away from major developers because a lot of the things I'm seeing from them are just regurgitated, re-skinned versions of their previous selves. I have BF6, and I enjoy it, but it's not drastically different from the first BF1 in terms of core gameplay. And how many times has Elder Scrolls: Oblivion/Skyrim been release/re-released...?

Major devs aren't giving me anything really "new" in terms of experiences considering the amount of money they take in. And that's how they keep costs down. They polish an already polished turd, and sell it to us as new. To be fair, I don't really think all these re-released/re-skinned games are actually turds, but it felt fun to say in my head πŸ™‚

EA both does, and does not replace the alpa/beta path, depending on the dev. But considering the game has only been out in EA for a whole sixty days, to expect all the major bugs to be fixed at a time of year when lots of people are celebrating lots of different holidays around the world, seems a bit short sighted to me.

yep, very true, many, if not most, of the EA games on Steam are independent devs, no studio backing, they might well have a company/studio name on them, might as well, but it's still just a handful of devs with an idea but no outside investment, so I totally get why some games go into EA status as early as they do, the devs still gotta live, and making a game as a hobby outside of a separate full time job would take forever

some try to go the kickstarter route and get funding before they can release stuff, and usually do manage to get some backers, but this can be a mixed bag, for a variety of reasons that I realized as I started to type more out that it's way to long for a post here XD - so I'll leave it at that

Language has never been static. Definitions have always evolved. That's the very nature of communication.

It's up to we, as people, to read the context clues and adapt.

With 8.2 billion people on earth, it is all but an absolute certainty that someone, somewhere, is going to use a word in a way that you or I don't agree with, and that someone else is going to like the way that word is used, and it's going to catch on.

I come from the Trainz / SCS series and so I am used to the releases / re-releases, they improve over time, get new features and things improve bit by bit...

The thing that tanked Trainz for me was when Railworks came out and N3V started competing with dovetail, things became less stable and overall, just went downhill for me.

My experience over the same 30 years... hasn't changed all that much to be honest. It's just transitioning between independent and steam based purchases, the same model can be seen in the farm simulator series.

I guess the thing I come back for, is the familair experience that I get from both series.

rough forge
# nova grotto I come from the Trainz / SCS series and so I am used to the releases / re-releas...

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! I don't hate the major dev's for doing what they do. They have a recipie that works for them, and most people seem to enjoy the product. Hell, as I mentioned, I'm one of them with BF6. You're right. It's familiar, and that's something that I appreciate about it. The other side of that coin though, as you mentioned, is that it's not "new" per se. Still not a bad thing.

My big thing in this whole conversation is that people who expect EA to be bug free, or even remotely so, aren't paying attention to what smaller developers are having to go through to get their games made. Without the EA path, in today's world, many smaller titles likely would not exist. This game, or it's spiritual predecessor Forever Skies? Probably not. Satisfactory? Maybe? 7 Days? Who knows?

My library is a laundry list of EA games that may never have been given a chance without the funding that the path allows for.

My "harsh" two cents is this -- If you purchase an EA game, expect a wild degree of inconsistency in your general gaming experience and let the notion of "helping the little guy" put a smile on your face.

If you want a polished product, go somewhere else.

None of this directed at you specifically, of course πŸ™‚
