Why are there two of him now?
Boundless of Scopely owned by Savvy but still knows how to make declarations without commitment lol
Couldn't be me tryna dash with spacebar in the overworld on Dragonheir
@stuck valve Even if you happen to be one of the most privileged groups, which it always seems someone is when they claim privilege doesn't exist, there's still privileges that other groups they're not a part of get to have, so to think it straight up doesn't exist is completely absurd.
Yeah we share a perspective lol
I could see where that was going though
😂
I would be interested to know what privilege you think exists though
Generational wealth is a huge one
I think there are lots of issues people don't notice because they're not obvious
as in people have worked hard in the past and that has been passed down through the family?
Being born into a country that doesn't have to use a VPN to get this beta.
Yes but the question is where the source of that wealth comes from
Take America
A lot of families can afford to do certain things because of what was done to others, which allows them to pass that wealth down to their kids
But families who lack that background consistently have to financially support their own parents (for example) rather than their parents having their independent finances
There are exceptions -- there always are -- but basically the struggles that people deal with as a result of the past are still there
but what is privileged about someone having worked hard in the past to provide for there family in the future? Nothing stopping any person of any gender, race, age, ability from doing that
I feel like sometimes you gotta go at these kinds of people with the sort of privileges they DON'T have, like collecting child support if their partner leaves them, or getting to use certain slurs in a non-offensive way.
Yes, because racism wasn't that long ago -- it didn't just magically vanish when it was abolished
People could get certain jobs while others couldn't
but racism happens towards every skin colour
Do you genuinely believe
And I'm asking this in a literal sense
That every race experiences the same level of discrimination collectively?
can check within the last 5 years in Britain, the BBC were promoting jobs that you could only apply for if you were of black skin colour
Why did they do this?
And why are they promoting hiring women?
I think asian people receive the most racism in todays society
So you agree that racism is disproportionate?
Not to be antagonistic, but you basically proved what you said earlier to be wrong
And we can trace this back to Covid
But other races still face the same issues
Racism has come to the attention of more people but it hasn't magically vanished because people have gotten tired of hearing of it
And of course there are more issues than just racism
disproportionate yes but every colour skin experiences it, nobody is exempt so there is no privilege, it isnt a systematic problem, its an individuals problem
That's where people disagree -- due to the image of white people, for example, they are generally well-received wherever they go
This is why it's considered a privilege
one only has to look at the main stream media of todays society, white males are villianised to high hell but they are still considered to be in a privileged position
I agree with you there, however I don't think this has a tangible effect within soceity -- it's mostly social media
There's been a trend toward making white people feel guilty for being white, and I think this is morally wrong
But like most things, social media has a big problem right now
course it has an effect, social media has destroyed modern society as we know it
Algorithms focus on controversy and so they magnify things that aren't general consensus
I wouldn't say destroyed: twitter isn't a reflection of the average worldview
People see a lot of these things, get incensed, and think everyone feels that way
It's like how Reddit thought Trump would lose, until he didn't; thye failed to realise that Reddit is a microcosm and people don't necessarily share the views that are most loudly trumpeted on social media
Same with the whole manufactured men / women war thing right now
They still are though. Even in a couple generations when it's no longer old actually-racist white dudes hiring young "innocent" white dudes, there's still the generational wealth thing that creates whole districts.
I would personally say destroyed, look at this myth of a pay gap, the privilege of men in the work place, research shows that there is no such pay gap and in actual fact women are paid more yet men are considered privileged
the main stream media dictates what 90% of the modern population thinks, they throw out buzz words like racism, privilege, patriacy etc etc and people jump on those buzz words
look at the modern day black washing of mainstream media
I think the problem here is believing that all of these views are monolithic
They're many different groups
the nonsense surrounding pronouns, everyone wants to be a victim nowadays and the mainstream media is promoting that
I mean, did you see the kings coronation in britian recently?
apparently a family that has historically been white and presented themselves on the balcony was too white and this was deemed racist in the mainstream media, the particular actress who called this out had to back track from making such a nonsense statement, everyone wants to be a victim and point out how everyone else has all this privilege but their is nothing stopping a black man from getting the same job as a white man, jsut as there is nothing stopping a woman from getting the same job as a man
everybody in todays society has equal opportunities but nobody wants to admit that because they want privilege from playing the victim
The want what? The thing you don't think exists? :P
I think this is a case of confirmation bias -- there's definitely a problem with social media, but the real problem isn't society, it's that there are too many people who shouldn't have a platform now having access to a platform. People prefer controversy to (boring) peace, and so their controversial opinions are what's spread everywhere because it creates engagement
It doesn't negate the actual real problems
For example, that woman who called the royal family too white had to backtrack because she was clearly talking nonsense and failed to realise words have repercussions in the real world
exactly, it is being artifically created in todays society, I am a victim, I deserve special treatment. No your exactly the same as the person next to you, get on with your life lol
Both of those are toxic
The second fails to acknowledge that that simply isn't true
Let me give you an example
indeed but why did she make those comments? A black woman on national TV, because shes played the victim up until that point and feels she is in a privileged position to be able to say something as stupid as that lol
You've got a white guy and a suit or a, I don't know, Ugandan man in Ugandan attire and you've got to trust one with your money. Do you apply the same level of trustworthiness to both?
Why is that?
There's a history behind this that colours your decisions
This is why people say white people are privileged
Their template isn't coloured by preconceptions, because they have a history of being reiable
I definitely trust the white guy in the suit less. Much more likely to be a thief.
And why is that?
Generational wealth leads to different behaviours
And where did the wealth come from?
Etc. etc.
I apply my trust to the person who is most qualified, I dont give a crap about the colour of someones skin
You're not helping 😭
You don't know them so you don't know who's more qualified.
You might not, but the rest of the world does
if I dont know them I dont trust either of them then
You may as well claim that people aren't racist towards Asian people following Covid
It's just not realistic
and 99% of the world wont trust either of them
The last global punching bag was Arabic people around the time of Al Quaeda / ISIS
You must live in an incredibly small bubble if you always know everyone making your food, your drinks, doing your repairs and other services.
The world just isn't fair, and people are biased, and these biases translate to privileges for some and disadvantages out of the gate for others
my family originates from South Africa as well as Hungry, I have experienced racial abuse, I have seen racial abuse, it was no different aimed at me than it was the person next to me
yes I do it all myself
Then you should know this better than anyone
South Africa is actually the perfect example
It's still ongoing
I would choose the Ugandan. Hands down.
Blacks causing problems for whites, Whites causing problems for blacks
Depends on the region you go to
exactly, both cause problems for one another there is no privilege there, its happening to both sides of that argument
take the UFC as a prime example of that right now
I don't think there's anything wrong with Ugandans btw, just gotta throw that out there lol -- I just picked a region known for a strong accent that makes them stand out in the West
That's just not true though
A black middleweight champion came out and called a white south african a cracker
he claims it isnt racist, and the white guy is being racist because he said, he actually lives in south african not new zealand like the black guy
one is being racist, one is stating a fact
But how does that change anything?
We're not arguing that white people don't experience racism
The point is that given the current distribution of wealth and influence in the world, life is unfair for some
Some groups are privileged while others are not
There will be exceptions within these groups
but in todays society, the victim mentality that is associated with skin colour has created an artificial privilege for said black person to be openly racist towards a white person, something that as a community they are complaining about happening many many years ago but now the roles are reserved its ok whilst they still go on about racism
But it's like saying that humans are mostly male or female is wrong because there are occasionally people with genetic anomalies
Hungry or Hungary?
That's where I disagree -- it happens, but it's not socially acceptable
privilege is a main stream media contruction when they want to tear down a specific group of people
you know its spelt with an a
I'm willing to bet that 99% of the instances you've encountered are online posts
If not 100%
So why assume the world is like social media?
Social media does not reflect real life views
It's all of the hottest takes that generate the most discussion
That's how the algorithms work
Go outside and ask someone on the street and they won't think that crapping on white people is OK
It's obviously racist
I am not assuming the world is like social media, I am assuming the majority of the worlds population takes the medias word at face value and follow the idealogy it is trying to create by using these buzzwords
And that's where I disagree; it's true in some cases (with news about people), but most people aren't blind sheep who believe things that are demonstrably nonsense
You can sway people by stoking their fears but the rest just isn't realistic
yet I was racially abused when I was younger and people thought it was ok, my white best friend was racially abused and people thought it was ok, I use my own personal experiences as well as what I see people talking about constantly
I'm sorry you experienced that
South Africa is known for its racial problems
What they did to you wasn't okay
its fine, its a part of life, there was no privilege on the abusers behalf nor on the abusee's behalf
I can see why social media is a trigger
However I'll stress that those views are not normal views shared by your average person on the street
they eventually got an adequte punishment for the crime they committed
Yeah basically no one should be treated like sh*t
thats were you are more intelligent than the majority of the average people though
the average person follows blindly celebrity culture
It's a subset of society
Trust me
I have been personally told that i have white privilege. I fact i was passed up for a position at my old job because of that. It was unfortunate. However, I just decided to move on.
It's like being on a train and thinking "these sheep don't think about x"
if i slow down in my responses its because I am searching arena fights but I will respond! lol
Haha
I'm sorry
that happens so much in todays society though, you are white so you instantly have privilege even though you dont so you are then overlooked to provide that very privilege to someone who is classed as not having it yet its artifically been created for them, makes no sense but again goes back to what I was saying about victimhood in todays society, everybody is a bigger victim than the person next to them so they deserve special treatment, privileged treatment
man wheres crime gone? I assume she was trying to make a point about my misspelling because I am typing fast lol
I do think privilege exists -- basically it's complicated
Within a society, there are certain people who benefit from the nature of that society
That's just life
BUT
Other factors can mitigate that
I'm not talking about South Africa though
That place is something else 😂
I mean most of the West like America, Britain, Germany, etc.
privilege in my opinion is artifically created in todays society to turn one section of society against another one
It's not though, it has always existed
It's human nature
All war is class war.
Privilege is just the word we use to describe the benefits of being part of the most influential group
I'm actually not upset about the fact that i wasn't offerd the position. Its the fact that they told me to my face that i was privileged due to my skin color.
They sound very... tacky
It can also be very contextual as I was pointing out before. Simply being part of "the most influential group" still leaves one lacking certain forms of privilege.
but how did the influential group get into that position? They had to either work hard, fight a war or as we see in todays society play the victim constantly
It's still all based around general inequality and unfairness that we've constructed in our society.
That's not true though
They got their by inventing guns and invading other nations
Other places were exploited
Some places screwed themselves
ok so someone engaged their brain and created a weapon
= working hard
someone started a war for whatever reason
Yes but when you go elsewhere and conquer other people
=survival of the fittest
Is the world fair or not?
You're contradicting what you said before
no but the world isnt fair for anyone
That's an oversimplification that removes the nuance in this
The world isn't that simple
The world isn't fair for anyone, but the world is more unfair for some than others due to the events of the past
I hope this isn't a trigger (?) but you experienced some of the afterefects of the resentment sowed by Apartheid
There's lots of unresolved hatred
And it echoes and echoes
who is the world fair for? I dont see any immortals living in paradise on this god forsaken planet, everyone suffers at some point or another
isnt this what I have been saying though? "I am a bigger victim than you, you are privileged" 🤣
By this logic, there's no difference between having your arm cut off and being set on fire because you're both suffering
There are *degrees *of suffering
The world in its current state is harder for some than others
If you want to do x, there are certain obstacles some face that others do not
Also the ones living in paradise don't want you to see them doing it and invest a lot of money into hiding it and keeping you distracted.
but who is this current world hard for? everyone has equal opportunities unless your a white male atm
That's just not true though
There it is, now he's saying white men have it hardest. XD
I don't believe that you genuinely feel that this privilege doesn't exist, rather I think that you dislike the state of affairs where some people aren't being challenged for holding unreasonable views
Basically white people get crapped on without social repercussions, which is unfair
That's a separate issue that society needs to address
based upon what I said thus far, main stream media constantly attacking white males etc, yet they still have the same opportunities as the next guy unless your applying for a job at the BBC
labour MP Diane Abbot, American chat show host Whoopy Goldberg both inthe last 6 months made comments about how jews didnt suffer racism, only black people have suffered racism....... which we all know is untrue but again comes back to the "I am a bigger victim than you, give me special treatment" comment I made
Do you think maybe they adopted that policy after doing some data analysis and finding that they have an absurdly disproportionate number of white males already employed in their workforce? Would you go so far as to claim that perhaps the reason that was the case is that other groups just aren't smart enough or hardworking enough to get a job in the BBC?
And you saw what happened to them
Because what they said isn't okay
Whoopie got dropped by ABC
indeed whoopy doubled down on her comments not twice, not thrice but 4 times she doubled down on them saying that white on white attacks cannot possibly be racism
She got fired
Because people don't share this belief
It was racist
and nothing happened to her except a short and I mean very short leave of absence
That's what I'm saying; just because these guys say it doesn't mean everyone else agrees
But shouldn't we be trying to end racism and discrimination. This just feeds to the fire and division, imo.
she had a 2 week suspension
and came back and made the exact same comments a year later and nothing happened lol
but will talk about male privilege until the cows come home
will talk about white privilege until the cows come home
One week
There is actually some historical doubt about the "jews were slaves in Egypt" thing based around some evidence that suggests they were skilled paid laborers and mercenaries at the time, but anyone who denies the holocaust is a total nutbag.
privilege to me is an artifical construct made by the main stream media to turn society against itself so we never look at the bigger issues because we are too busy fighting amongst ourselves
her comments were about the holocaust
I don't agree, inequality exists
which was racially driven but she played down because whites cant be racially discriminated against, its just two sets of people who dont like each other apparently
class, race, gender, sexuality, environmental, etc. all of these are factors that stack
Each comes with its own ups and downs
Some are more noticeable than others
It's just not believable to say that these are non-factors
That's not to say there aren't outliers with issues that cancel out benefits -- for example, a poor white family -- but a poor black family would realistically be worse off because they would deal with more racism and locations where they simply can't live or get jobs
Take a black family moving to china vs a white family
Do they both experience racism?
Yeah
But negativity and mockety in mainland china is going to be skewed toward the black family
That's just one aspect
If the world was the way you're saying it is it'd be a utopia
I personally dont care about this, I used to do the interviews for my workplace, if you had worked hard, were qualified for the role and showed me in your behaviours during said interview you were capable of performing the job to a high standard I didnt care who you were, you got the job
But does the fact that you don't care mean others don't?
You may as well argue that nobody cared 50 years ago
The racism isn't rational, but it exists
And it's a problem
People haven't suddenly become saints just because you're a fair guy
I havent said racism doesnt exist though? In fact I said everybody suffers from racism but thus far your discussion has revolved around who experiences it worst...... which comes back to what I have said "I am a bigger victim than you, I deserve special treatment"
Take America, people didn't give a damn about what black people had been complaining about with police violence (if you just obeyed them it'd be okay!) until the police turned on everyone else during the protests, and it came out that holy shi*t, these guys are out of control and a fair number of precincts are basically gangs
Some people are bigger victims, and as a result more drastic measures are needed
when people stop trying to play the bigger victim then society as a whole will move forward and these issues will be properly addressed but as I have been saying the mainstream media (which isnt social media as you have decided) convinces people to turn against one another and ignore the bigger issues
These problems are not mutually exclusive
You're acting like everything is a farce and none of it's real
Which just isn't true
Where there's smoke there's fire, and the truth here lies somewhere inbetween both extremes
the racial abuse suffered by a black man is no worse than the racial abuse suffered by an asian man which is no worse than racial abuse suffered by a white man, its racism at the end of the day, its not acceptable so why do select individuals feel the need to continually make out that there problem is worse than others
again, that's just not true
there are degrees of racism
there are more chinese and black people suffering from racism than whites
individual cases may be mroe or less extreme, but collectively, the different groups are targetted different amounts
oh so until the numbers equalise the racial abuse for those is worse?
well if it's a bigger problem it's a bigger problem
literally
all of them need to be addressed
no, until the racism stops full stop its the same problem for all of them
you keep oversimplifying the nature of the problem lol
we all know racism needs to go
privilege is one of a thousand aspects
but as I said, "I am a bigger victim than you, my problem is worse than yours, give me privilege conditions"
that's one of a thousand aspects
racism towards anyone is wrong, its a problem but to state that its a bigger issue towards one colour of people than another is part of the problem, it isnt, its wrong full stop, there is no privileged position because more of a select colour are abused but that is the argument, more of colour X is being abused, so colour Y is in a more privileged position, no both sides experience it, neither side should experience it, nobody is in a privileged position because of it
I can see what you're getting at
So you don't like it being framed as privileged vs degrees of disadvantage
its wrong full stop, nobody should experience it but as I say, half the people who havent even experienced it themselves but are a certain colour like to play the victim to get into an artificial position of privilege which we are seeing in todays society, racism is wrong but nobody experiences it worse than anyone else as a whole, sure individual cases can be extreme but this whole victim mentality needs to change and people need to join together instead of playing the "I am a bigger victim" game
time for a smoke, slow replies ma dude
again, as someone in London surrounded by many races, I don't see this on a day to day basis and I think this is a view created by social media that does not reflect real life
like at all
there are people coming out trying to exploit things but again, they are not the mainstream
my town has plenty of different nationalities in it, I see racism towards black people on the daily but the worst racism I see is towards the Polish from other white people
BBC news a couple of weeks ago and in the papers, black gent went for a job interview at one of the posh hotels, I forget its name, but he took it through the telly box and the courts because their dress policy was racist apparently, because although everyone else has to cut there hair to look smart of a high end establishment he shouldnt have to because he is black...... like wtf
privilege created by using racism
These are anecdotes, though
How often do you think this happens IRL?
It made news because it's so bizarre
It was added specifically because it's incitive enough to seed debate and increase viewer retention
So I'd be careful not to let these grow resentment in you
personally I dont care, I only watched that because I am at my dads waiting for my property purchase to go through otherwise I do not watch any mainstream media
like at all
I refuse to even own a TV
That could be good for your mental health but I also think it's important to stay abreast of different perspectives to avoid having your mind skewed by personal tunnel vision or any group (left / right wing)'s propaganda
Not much man, me and john are just chatting shit
I tend not to even engage in it, I just play games (I am classed as disabled) I try to enjoy my life instead of being dragged into the shitstorm that the modern mainstream media tries to create around everything to deflect your attention from the actual important matters
I remember years ago before I had my own stores when I was selling cars at a ford dealership, some customer came in for me and they were black. I was out back pulling a car out of three rows stuck behind others, my GM called me and said they wanted to work with Eddie, a black salesperson instead because he was black. He chuckled and said “yeah it’s like some reverse racism”
I said no Brad, it’s just racism
To this day I still think about that when people bring up white folks and act like they can’t or don’t ever experience, as if when it’s against white people it’s not “real” racism
Still find it ironic. Because all racism is bad racism
But que sera, sera
And that's exactly the problem, it's not deemed racist behaviour by the majority so it isnt classified as being bad when in actual fact it's the exact same as racism and it is bad, "I am a bigger victim than you" is the mentality I've been referring to
I feel like a broken record but like I said, racism exists for everyone. The point here is that people are trying to address certain underlying societal problems that cause it to crop up more consistently for certain groups. Is racism a daily concern for white people? The answer is (almost always) no; it happens but it's not something they will reasonably expect to encounter as an obstacle (excluding certain areas, like parts of South Africa). That isn't true for other races. This is why it's being targetted -- it's a more acute problem for certain demographics, and until the underlying problems are fixed it will remain acute. It doesn't mean that the other problems don't exist or that they aren't equally valid, it's more of a matter of people dealing with the raging wildfire vs the contained fire in your backyard
And social media just does not help, as it thrives off controversy and just keeps feeding it
But that's the thing, in todays society white people can expect to be discriminated against on a daily basis, historically maybe not but that certainly is no longer the case in todays society
Is it white people being discriminated against, though, or intervention to correct an institutional disadvantage to other groups?
If the scales were imbalanced, how can tilting them back to a normal state be considered discrimination?
Do you see where I'm coming from?
Check out the latest racism shitstorm, netflix and their "documentary" on Cleopatra and the black washing of an historical figure who is known to be of Greek Macedonian heritage. The actors and director are accusing the entire Egyptian nation of being racist because "I am a bigger victim than you"
The entire internet came together to tear them a new asshole lol
This is an example of the opposite
That they couldn't get away with it
Just look at the reviews
They were utterly destroyed
Because change has happened over many many years already, people like to cling to the past like it's still happening now but it isnt, a select few individuals who are racially motivated do not represent an entire demographic of people
You don't seem to acknowledge the fact that people are still experiencing the effects
And good because they are trying once again in todays society to play the victim but it's been going on for too long now and people are starting to push back against the cultural appropriation
What some bodies grandmother experienced isnt what is happening today though
Yes, it is
You should have noticed it living in South Africa
Our world is different but it's not that easy to erase the problems
That is in the past, continually bringing up the past is what is causing these issues to drag on
The past literally led to the present
This isn't ancient Rome
60 years ago was right around the corner
Your parents were there for it
Indeed nor is it the 1960s anymore
It's not like it's the Victorian era
Yes, and yet the people who lived through it and were shaped by it are still alive right now
Many in positions of power
It was not that long ago
You're acting like the world magically changed overnight
And all the systemic racism set up just vanished
It didn't
People are trying to course-correct, which is the reason for all these programs
It hasn't been fixed yet
No the world has gradually changed over time, back then black people were segregated, are they still now?
Even you don't believe that racism just went poof
A course change doesnt happen by using racism to fight racism
It's not using racism to fight racism
It's using the law to readjust things to fight racism
No they didnt change the select individuals who are racist and you never will but those individuals are on every side not just one
But as I said those select individuals are not representative of an entire demographic of people
I agree with that, but the problem is that many are in power and created the situations that exist right now
The systems that remain
That's what people have been counteracting
Distrubtion of wealth gives certain groups disproportionate power within society
People hiring and promoting people like them, because they relate to them
It's to break it all up
I agree with this
But it's not to punish white people, it's to give others an "in"
There's a relevant saying here: "when you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression"
They are counteracting systemic racism that doesnt exist in todays society because everybody has equal opportunities by using racism to fight something that happened 60+ years ago because they cling to the past "I am a bigger victim than you"
Everybody has an in already in todays society
No, they do not
You work hard you get where you want to be
You may as well go to Japan and claim that everything's fair for outsiders because we're in 2023
It's not
Not always but working hard gets you places
You just haven't experienced it
It does, but knowing the right someone gets you further faster
I know white people in japan and korea who have extremely good lifestyles
How does that change anything? It doesn't mean there's not systemic discrimination against outsiders
Same with the West
👆
It's not even a secret
Mainstream media articles?
Even the Japanese admit it
Do I need to refer back to what I was saying about the main stream media and the narrative they portray?
Scholarly journal:
Subscription and open access journals from Sage, the world's leading independent academic publisher.
It's not a secret
I'm not sure why you can't accept that racism is still a modern problem
60 years isn't enough
We didn't even start trying properly until about 15 years ago
I've said about 6 times in this conversation that it is a problem but you wont acknowledge it's a problem for everybody
I've already acknowledged it's a problem for everybody -- what I've said is that the nature and severity varies, and that's why it's being dealt with through differing means
You keep saying it's worse for group A than it is for group B when it isnt, people still suffer from racism regardless and it's a problem regardless
It IS
2 black people experience it, 1 white person experiences it, 3 Asian people experience it, it isnt any worse for any of those groups of people, it's a problem full stop
what's the nature of what they're experiencing?
Are they being called bad names on social media?
Or are they being blocked from getting jobs, refused housing and being killed by police?
Doesnt matter, racism is racism, it shouldn't exist, it's bad no matter what form it takes
Life is not that simple my guy 😭
That oversimplification is not useful when it comes to real world problems
Which is why the problem exists today, I'll say it again, "I am a bigger victim than you give me privilege treatment because of that"
Yes, if it's actually needed
Saying they're competing to be victims is trivialising a very real, very acute problem in today's world, and it's this kind of turning a blind eye that propagates it
The racism will never stop in todays society if people keep comparing the degrees of racism and playing the bigger victim
Yes, if the degree is worse they have a right to
Acknowledge X, Y and Z all suffer racism regardless of the form and tackle as a whole to eradicate it but no instead we have to compare I've been abused more than you it's a bigger problem for me
If I'm getting set on fire while some other guy is getting slapped around, then it makes sense to ask for urgent action. But they'll save both in time, because both need saving
This is something you're zooming in on in social media, it's not how actual society works
Both would need urgent action, both are suffering
Yes but one is at bigger threat of dying right there and then
Hence why they're prioritised if there are limited resources at hand
And yet people die all the time from getting slapped to the ground and banging there head
This is getting hypothetical lol
Again I am a bigger victim than you because I think my problem is worse
Doesn't change that institutional racism exists!
But it doesnt, individuals in positions of power enact the racism
Which is why they create laws to prevent them doing that, which is what you're saying is unfair
But people like to say it's a institution problem...... if you removed those select few individuals from said institute is it still a problem? No
It is, because it's not just people at the top
They hire people like them
And enact rules that benefit certain groups
Small example: Systemic racism’s effect on employment is well-documented. It begins with the hiring process. Black Americans with “white-sounding” names receive 50% more callbacks for their job applications. Even having a college degree doesn’t necessarily help one’s chances.
Company policy not being followed in favour of select individuals enacting their own rules is not institutional though, the company or whatever isnt at it the individual is
American police issues: Given this, perhaps it should not come as a surprise that even though, as we said, Black people make up 13% of the population, they represent about Black people make up 13% of the general population, yet 40% of the prison population.40% of the prison population. Why is that(Opens in new window)? Perhaps because if a Black person and a white person each commit a crime, the Black person has a better chance of being arrested. It’s also true that, once arrested, Black people are convicted more often than white people. And for many years, laws assigned much harsher sentences(Opens in new window) for using or possessing crack, for example, compared to cocaine. Finally, when Black people are convicted, they are about 20% more likely to be sentenced to jail time, and typically see sentences 20% longer than those for whites who were convicted of similar crimes. And as we know, a felony conviction means, in many states, that you lose your right to vote. Right now in America, more than 7.4%(Opens in new window) of the adult African American population is disenfranchised (compared to 1.8% of the non-African American population).
Well, the correct term would be systemic
Systemic racism
Well dam I am screwed with my name and yet my qualifications have always ensured every job I have applied for I've gotten an interview for
Its too easy for people to say I didnt get this because of the colour of my skin nowadays because of the past
Yes but one anecdote doesn't invalidate the statistics
I agree with this
But that doesn't mean that it's not frequently a problem
Skewed statistics that show asian people as being the lowest racially abused people in America yet they are by far the highest
If we’re talking American population, black males particularly make up a disproportionately higher percentage for committing violent crime than any other race, so it’s easy to see why they are represented higher in the prison system.
That's a pretty well-known fact,t hough
Yes but this was taken from statistics that compare the result of committing the same crimes
But the stats dont back it up
Asian hate?
Which you will see on average black people commit more crimes based upon their back ground and yet we wonder why the police arrest us more 🤣
It's a recent development because of Covid
I mena there was always racism but it's blown up recently
The point is that if any one group of men is committing more violent crime than the other, of course there will be more of that group in jail
Yes but blacks are disproportionately impoverished due to a lack of generational wealth. Poor people commit more crimes -- it's not exactly a shocker
Generational what
Those stats vanish when you take wealthy blacks into account
My dad was a truck driver
I make about half a million a year. Nothing generational about that
You're an exception
I mean sure, there are people who are generationally wealthy
That's not it
No, the generationally wealthy are the exception
How many trust fund babies do you know?
Oh I thought you meant something else -- and yes
Hell I don’t know many
But said generational wealth comes from past conflict where they were unable to defend themselves just like vikings did against the english all those years ago, times were different then your applying todays misguided logic to events that happened with different rules of survival
I mean generational wealth disparity was definitely an issue 200 years ago
It's still an issue right now
I'm trying to figure out which to address first
Okay, take poor black people in America
What about poor Mexicans?
Slaves stuck around, racism remained even after slavery was abolished
Or poor Irish immigrants
What about them? Same problem
Only because people continually cling to the past to play the victim instead of getting there ass in gear and working their hardest to improve there situation
Ever heard of "no blacks, no Irish, no dogs?"
This is why your perception is so warped
You assume that hard work can fix everything
If you aren’t an American it may be hard to understand but - you are free to succeed here and free to fail
Because in the 21st century it can
Yes, but some people are at a bigger disadvantage
Look there are people living in “poverty” buying 1000 dollar iPhones
They aren’t generationally poor, their mind is poor
If you're born in a shitty enviroment, you don't have mentors, you don't have family to guide you, you can't necessarily pay for good schooling, you have a shitty accent that people are unlikely to want to hire you for certain roles (would a fancy bank hire someone with a street accent to deal with important business partners?), etc.
When I can watch a nigerian immigrant travel half way across the world from the slums and become a multi millionaire with next to no education your telling me that people in 1st world countries cant do that and change there situation?
People are not born at the same starting line
Yes but it doesn’t matter where you start
It does!
Equal opportunity is never going to mean equal results
It mattered 60 years it doesnt matter now
It mattered then, it matters now
You seem to be disregarding a slew of factors
I am disregarding factors that are not relevant to the starting point of being alive in 2023
You always start now
Now is now.
Were you raised speaking acompletely different vernacular? Were your parents able to put you through school?
That's BS, you can start now, but it will be harder for certain people to get certain jobs than others
Everybody has equal opportunities to do what they want in todays society if they choose not to that's their choice but they then blame it on the past, my ancestors experienced racism it's not fair..... ok but what does that have to do with you right now? Is that stopping you from going to college and getting a degree to better yourself? No. Is that stopping you from leaving your current situation to better yourself? No I could go on but i wont
You're acting like this is a non-factor
Simply having an educated family that can teach you certain perspectives is a game changer
I went to one semester of college and had to drop out because I had to make money
Equal opportunities =/= equal abilities to take advantage of those opportunities
Check my above example of the nigerian national
This is a common story among the poor
That's exactly my point
It's a huge disadvantage to getting certain jobs
You may end up having to take a different path entirely
You did not have the chances someone better off would have had
I have a huge disadvantage at getting a surgeon job
The guy travelled alone and ended up in france, not speaking a word of the language and yet somehow some way despite his disadvantaged start in life his hard work got him to where he wanted to be, a multimillionaire
You had to fight harder to get to the same place
Who’s fault is that???
Life!
The point is to change the situation for countless people, because they were screwed by historic events
What makes it worse is that when poor people pool together, it creates a culture
The culture instils values at odds with the rest of society, because people have to live differently in those regions to survive
That's all life
Precisely. And again , the choices we make. I am more qualified to get franchise licenses and open car dealerships than become a surgeon, but both of those facts have only to do with my choices and my mindset along the way and my work ethic
No, they were because you had to drop out due to funds
If you had funds, the course of your life would have been different
Doors were closed to you
I could have worked overnights
More doors would be closed to you if you weren't taught to speak a certain way, or deal with certain matters a certainway
I closed that door
For many, nights isn't enough
I chose to make money in the way I chose it, but I had other choices. As does everyone in America
No, not everyone
But its 2023 now, said historical events now go in their favour, theres no negative discrimination based upon those because people are too scared to not give a job to an unqualified waster through fear of being labelled a racist so it's essentially come full circle now and people are still complaining about the past
That's nonsense, it happens all the time
I've seen it myself a couple of times
It's often the people who can familairise themselves and cosy up to management
And the people who are too different don't get close
As have I, people getting jobs that they shouldn't be anywhere near based purely on the colour of their skin or gender
There's a lot of room for personal decisions
Yes, but why?
There are directives to break things up, due to the big picture
Oh so now individuals are the issue where as before for your point it is a institutional problem
When did I say it wasn't individuals?
I've said both from the beginning
This is like complaining about there being different cliques in high school. Yes in a Melting pot people will gather with familiarity but the laws and standard applied really favor minorities in the workplace for the past 20 years more than anything else
It's different when the problem is endemic in a society
Where the cliques have the ability to influence hiring decisions and career progress
Oh Jesus let’s use buzzwords
"We can't put this guy in front, he'll make us look bad"
Because he didn't have the same opportunities growing up
It exists for entire groups
I'm not sure why you guys can't acknowledge this
It's not 1960 anymore dude 🤣
Because I do
That's a logical fallacy, but yes, I've been involved in hiring
And I’m telling you , the endemic you speak of is a fallacy
What's your point?
I actually agree
However these are not mutually exclusive
People are able to exploit the opportunity because others are trying to address the real problem
It's like the problem of suing in America
Well I thought it was pretty clear, society has changed since then, your acting like it's exactly the same when it isnt
When the endemic of fear is creating the illusion of victimhood so it perpetuates itself, the actual only issue present is the fear. The victimhood is the symptom .
GG @clear dune, you just advanced to level 10!
There are plenty of people who have a right to sue, and many others who try to take advantage of it for wealth or clout
The endemic of fear stems from a deeper problem, and the victimhood is exploiting the fear
Works for and against every person, every group of people benefit and suffer from this but with what've been saying it should only be looked at for group A because it happens to them more than group B
Society is unfair > people are calling out the unfairness for change > it resonates with enough people to create movements > people take those movements and run with them for personal gain: money, clout, harming people they don't like, etc.
All of it gets fanned by social media algorithms, which feed off controversy for money
That's the current state of affairs
My fingers are tired lol
Well, it's 4:30AM and I doubt our discussion will change anything, but it's been fun lol
Good to have a rant every now and then
Hhaa yeah true
Well anwyay I hope society will fix all of these problems but I don't see that battle ending during our lifetimes
Guess we'll see
It wont until people band together to tackle the issue as a whole as opposed to tackling it for one group at a time
And that wont happen in our lifetimes
Not whilst people are unable to tell the difference between a man and a woman at least
Where is the passage?

It will never end until all society stops putting labels on themselves. This can only only happen individually. As a whole human beings will not do this because then we really would all be equal. But what is equality exactly? Equal pay? Equal opportunities to what end? To survive. Since survival contradicts equality it will never happen and labels are there to make sure it doens't. We are afterall, just like all the rest of the animals.
I see where you're coming from... but I disagree; our greatest advantage as human beings is our reasoning ability. We can reject the fate of other animals. We consider everything and not only suppress our natural urges, but reshape our environment into one that's better for us as a species. This is how we became the dominant species on the planet: we found a smarter way, a faster way, a morally superior way to do everything. What people are asking for isn't equality -- which is problematic -- but an attempt at equity until systemic barriers have been removed and everyone can manage without suffering. This is what's humane. Here's an example of what people are talking about:
Our ultimate goal is to tear down systemic barriers that were created when humanity was less self-aware
Kids working in Victorian factories and getting torn apart by the machinery, women being unable to vote, slavery, etc.
If everyone threw up their hands and just said "life is unfair", we would still have all of these problems. Life is unfair, but that unfairness can be changed, which is the goal
If we gave in to our base nature, we'd just leave diabled people to die because survival of the fittest. Who cares if you struggle at work? You're less efficient so we can't hire you, and you can't feed yourself so you're a drain, so just go die in a bush somewhere, etc. etc. That callous train of thought would take you to an evil place
This is why perspectives like "hey, everybody has the same opportunities!" aren't helpful because... that's not how it works. There are all sorts of contextual problems at work that make an ostensibly fair opportunity unfair. The finish line is the same, but people start the race with vastly different obstacles
But in the end we are all angels that shit. Such is the human condition.
Hello everybody. if I am currently playing the beta. I would lose everything when it is officially released?

@slender mulch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sword_of_Shannara
The Sword of Shannara is a 1977 epic fantasy novel by American writer Terry Brooks. It is the first book in a titular trilogy.
The novel interweaves two major plots into a fictional world called The Four Lands. One follows the protagonist Shea Ohmsford on his quest to gain the Sword of Shannara and use it to confront the Warlock Lord (the antago...
Hmmm Terry brooks
yeah
similar high fantasy to forgotten realms
it focuses more on the mysticism, magic, and symbolism
Terry brooks seems to be more playful and silly imo ill give it a look but im not hopeful
I like grimdark
TB is alright, its decent enough to pass the time
one of my favorite authors nowadays is Jim butcher
Raymond E fiest was my Jam
grimdark
hmm, ive never played any of the warhammer games although i own quite a few of them
Fiest sounds familiar, ill look into it
sec
gotta do vortex
i'll add him to my reading list
.
@vagrant nimbus timed out. Please do not post links to facebook groups in the discord.
your killing me dude
they may annoy you but others do not need to hear your neighbours at it
xD
Whos able to create (coding) a website?
Depending on what you need it coded in and how good of a website you need I can
anyone here played HEROES: MIGHT AND MAGIC series? PC version. 😄
what type of website. poftfolio, shop, web app?
GG @blissful echo, you just advanced to level 2!
For my art a shop where they can buy my drawings and a little portfolio in a different section. Also where ppl can contact me per mail and inks to my social medias too.
A section for my prints and a section for the original drawings, also a section for paintings.
Flashbacks, I loved that series growing up... along with the Belgariad, the Wheel of Time series, and some other awesome fantasy books
I wouldn't pick up a book unless it was thick af
We have the same book tastes for sure lol
My favourite book series is the Dresden FIles
*Files
Urban Fantasy is great
If you haven't yet you should check out the litRPG webnovel genre, too
There are some stinkers but a lot of awesome translated series
Not all of them are tropey isekais, but even some isekais are amazing
Yeah, lots of good ones back then
They don't make them like they used to
Kek, bigger is better after all 😉
Yeah, Dresden Files is really good.
I just bought the last 2 books in series but haven't had time to read them yet
And litRPG thing has been recommended to me several times now, really need to check it out
I like em thick too. Oh wait you mean books? Yeah, sure, that as well.
Dresden Files is on my top ten list of series. Good stuff
GG @timber forum, you just advanced to level 2!
Yeah litRPGs do the progression fantasy thing better than any other genre
We basically don't have a growth fantasy genre
Which is why everyone loves shounen so much
It's kind of like how there's no true romance genre for men in the west
We have entire missing genres xD
But if you like characters learning magic / picking up abilities and rising from being a nobody to a godlike existence in their setting then litRPG / xuanhuan (both western and translated version) will be enough to hook you for the next year or so xD
I'm going to look into litRPG
Defo my favourite genre atm
I love progression fantasy and litRPG literally has progression fantasy baked into it haha
Wheres my ACE peeps?! 🤣
Can you please not do this. Nobody likes this type of behavior, so please stop. I don't even know who you are.
@timber forum you can just block the person, who is annoying you. And report for spam.
Oh, I know very well that I can block them, but this type of stuff needs to be called out.
@timber forum not acceptable behaviour and against server rules
now banned, apologies @timber forum
Thanks!
Hummingbird 😊
Great Thanks @fast vine
Be funny if it was a buttdial / fat finger . I’ve accidentally discord called someone before and hurried up to shut that call down haha had no interest in actually talking
If I click on your name, it’s pretty easy to accidentally hit voice call if your trying to swipe out. All I’m saying. Many would be a different story but one voice call could have just been accident
7 hours later and no response to me asking whats up, I have no issues over turning a ban
I just found it funny someone would freak out over that, when in reality homeboy was probably just trying to see what kinda dogs were in that profile pic lol but if they poofed after, they poofed
however until said person responds the ban will remain in effect (and yes the person was displaying as online when I messaged them)
Oh yeah I get that
haha indeed, we all make mistakes, they happen from time to time but I try to at least give the option to discuss it (for me if a member of the community is feeling harassed it must be dealt with accordingly)
more to do though 🤣
but yea, dude responds with a, it was an accident apologies or whatever then its no worries but you'll typically find they will either remain silent or get aggressive if it was intentional (at least in my previous experiences)
There’s already more quest line in off topic than there’s been in a week in game
your mission - discover if the mystery call was intentional or not
reward - i'll give you 1 gem
#worth
yeah so, the weather is pretty nice today
It is far too warm where I am 🫠
im in winter lmaooooo
I would rather be than summer lol
i guess it depends on your summer right lmao
no doubt, am sure alot of places are alot warmer than the UK right now but I just dont deal with the heat well 🤣
@random meteor you've been asked to give it a rest a couple of times again today, much like last time you refuse and continue with the toxic behaviour, you clearly are not willing to give it a rest so you have been timed out again. Stop with the childish and petty behaviour towards me, I am a volunteer mod, I am not your personal punching bag on the internet because you are having a bad day every so often (or whatever the reason is for your behaviour for a 2nd time towards me) and want somebody to take it out on. If you were behaving like this towards any other member of the community I would have timed you out a while ago, just because you are free to say what you want on the internet does not mean it will be tolerated nor should it be tolerated when you are going out of your way to single a person or group out with your toxicity. I hope when you return you do so in a better mental state.
i dont want to touch anywhere it snows
im good on that lmaooo
Lol not often we get it here in the UK tbh, feels like once every couple of years. Need to find me a country that is just mild all year round to move to 🤣
i suppose it depends on what you define as mild
Not too warm, not too cold is ideal for me, dont wanna be say there shivering nor sat there sweating my tits off 🤣
Mild
see like, im in australia and where i am COULD be considered mild to me in comparison to the rest of australia
ive live in cities where it gets to 40c
I have family over there, that part of the world is far too hot for me hahaha
I forget which massive shopping mall it is but there is a clothing store (quite up market) called Drotos that my family owns, beautiful place
gorgeous country
i would like to say the same about yours but uhhhhhh
GG @timber forum, you just advanced to level 2!
as i said, i dont do well with the cold
i also got away from the suffocating cities
so idk if the UK would be for me
I agree, uhhhhh is the perfect description 🤣
i think im just at that age where i want to settle down away from people
Come to Florida. It'll change your perspective
aka boomer development
i aint touching florida
they call that the penis of america for a reason
it lowkey shaped like one too
Oh, I thought it was the ahole
I am there, people just get on my nerves at this point in life, no time for them just enjoy doing what I do without a need for validation or anything along those lines
But for real, this heat sucks. My friend from UK doesn't want to visit because she says she'll melt
see what i did was, replace all the people with animals and now i cant get mad at anything
ay man, stay hydrated
I just stay in my house for the most part
Between the heat and the people, it's the best place to be.

KamiKatsu is the funniest of the season for me, that is freakin hilarious
I'll check it out xD
Also I can't believe it took me this long to notice your profile pic is Vegeta
😂
KamiKatsu is a proper dark horse that not many really know about but OMFG it needs a second season
I didn't zoomi n so just thought it was a random saiyan
vegeta is just the best imo 😛
loool i saw a trailer so it made me want to watch it
I'll chekc them both out
Yeah I like him
I've erased a certain incident from my memory though

How you gonna do this to my boy Vegeta?
Delete
Awesome thanks man
would never happen, at that point vegeta is far far too proud to beg goku for anything lol
hes just too funny with his arrogance
hells paradise is the best anime this season for me followed really closely by heavenly delusion and kamikatsu
kami is straight up hilarious in parts
vegeta would literally die before he asked goku for help
in fact he essentally killed himself with said pride against cell
the show did him dirty in a few spots 😛
they redeemed themselves
thankfully
honestly half of my problem with reading manga is that the MC is some sort of naive yet hard working character
JUST LIKE GOKU
yea it is quite annoying how many of them start out like that and even end like that
I am naive as hell to everything in the world
but i'll save everything and beat everyone
and all the women will love me
I find anime more enjoyable nowdays when I see an MC whos a boss
Anos Voldigoad first season of the misfit of demon king academy was freakin legendary
ill read manga depending on what it is but i stick to mostly manhwa
i did actually watch that
KamiKatsu is another one with a MC who isnt a pleb, dudes funny as
NO PLEBS ALLOWED
idk i dont really have a common opiinion when it comes to anime
ive watched a tonne of it and now im just ehhhh
alot of it is generic trash
but theres the odd diamond in the rough that keeps me coming back for more
listen ok, theres so many people that absolutely love hxh for example
and i just could not understand why
at all
I am not a fan of hxh
just felt kinda dull
peeps love naruto but to me it was so much filler
it made no sense LOL
same with one piece, I got through 600 episodes of it and literally things only happened in 50 of them, SO MUCH filler
gon is the MC and he did virtually nothing but cry about about his daddy issues all show
GG @timber forum, you just advanced to level 3!
i did watch the entirety on auto pilot
