#Idea for Alternate early difficulty curve + Related Entity

I shared a bit over in screenshot showcase but it could probably be its own thread so people can discuss it not in that channel, so here:

I was thinking the other day I wonder if it would be easier for people to get into it if the difficulty ramped up slower at the very start, with maybe some more neutral or less hostile entities in places like the metro, instead of it being the butcher first, and then only them.

So let people wander around the metro to get familiar with their surroundings and mechanics, then bump into things that maybe wont outright kill them but teach about entities that will scream when they spot you or things like that. So later on when they end up in hotel and they run into that guy and they scream, they might understand why something else came running, heh. or maybe a hearing only enemy that spawns very far from the entrance can hear that scream across the whole map, and you gotta deal with them only after accidentally triggering the scream, heh.

Kinda leads into another thought i have for a potential entity, that would activate after hearing a certain number of screams.
This entity is somewhere around the map sleeping, and each scream either has a chance to make them wake up, or a number of screams will, based on difficulty/map. So in the metro maybe you need three, and maybe in bunker you only need one. And when it wakes up, it lets out a loud and different scream you can hear from across the map, letting you know you just fucked up really bad.
I think maybe that kind of feedback might help people to start being more mindful of how much sound they're making, and they can sortof keep count in their head how many times they've messed up sneaking past one of these screamer guys, and if they're about to activate the bigger one.

It is less immediately punishing on failure and maybe gives some better room to practice sneaking around without an immediate risk of death, as what you're sneaking around wont turn around and kill you but your mistakes will stack up for something potentially worse that will. Maybe this sortof "librarian" type could get really mad and smash doors in real fast to come after you, so you even hear it coming :)

Those are some thoughts I've had while new and playing the game, I'm curious if yall have any similar thoughts, heh.

The sneaking around and hiding from entities is probably one of my favorite parts of the game, just creeping around things is super fun, and maybe I'd see just like a way for new players to get into that a bit more and practice it without getting run down by a chainsaw on every mistake SkyLOL

Of course for those with better game knowledge and experience they might choose to intentionally ignore such an entity, counting the number of times it triggered in their head as they consider whether its worth it to run past the next one or try to sneak hueh

the game had a slow ramping up difficulty system were only 2 shambler and the butcher spawned on metro on unbroken difficulty and the ventress on withering, spider on hollowed. difficulty increased after completing 2 cycles

this was before V1500

interesting, are the spawns currently more static as to what can spawn where, like the butcher being the only one in the metro?

it started with Butcher and shambler on Unbroken with the shambler spawning at 10 AM and at 6 PM on Withering you had to avoid the ventress too and on Hollowed difficulty the spider joined the party too but i don't remember the spawn time for spider .

#

on Condemed or Forsaken there were Forsaken spawning too

#

Sheff Austin has a lot videos of the old version on his youtube channel.

Yeah I’m not sure why in the new update they made it so ventress can spawn on metro on unbroken difficulty now where that was never the case before. The new update really made the game as un-beginner friendly as possible tbh

#

Granted she only spawns very late in the day but still it she shouldn’t exist on the easiest difficulty on the very first map imo

#

But yes I do agree the difficulties right now kinda don’t have enough characteristics to define them from each other, honestly I’m not even sure what changes from one difficult to the next other than maybe spawn rates and times and even then I’m not certain

Even I have struggled to escape ventress on metro in the new update despite having a lot of experience with the game at this point

I think this is a pretty decent idea, packrat is the first non-hostile entity we got and it still has the drawback of screaming and attracting other entities.

I feel like metro could use the old spawn system of butcher + shambler on unbroken but spawn packrat as well, add everything else on later difficulties.

Packrat (never seen before) could replace the second shambler in metro

I haven't yet seen them before, i wonder if they'd work as a good introductory entity in the metro

So there is kinda a solution for this in the works, a new casual gamemode that is meant for people to be able to enjoy the more exploration/learning part of the game, the entities are still in it but are much more leniant.

Honestly I don’t think butcher is even that bad as an introductory entity either, he is fairly straight forward and works exactly how you would assume he would work
