normal saves would save after starting the train to end the current game session so nothing changes in regards of money, debt and equipment unless a session was fully played out which also can prevent grieving without fancy anti cheat systems and functions (like in most games).

Wouldn't this be cheating?
No.
Because the map and enemy spawns are random every time a game session starts.

(currently the game treats quitting a session as a death without loosing loot on the train but the money used to start the previous stopped attemt is gone together with all carrtied items)

(Workahollics and masochists hate this idea)

V1500 made it much more painful since it now saves disconnects as lost days

I see your point. It can be painful to a solo run if you have to go afk for unexpected reasons and I wouldn't mind at all if they added that option for Solo players but that will only be possible when Solo game mode is added to FF. Right now I think its impossible to separate saving behavior between solo and multi lobbys and God knows that save scumming was the reason I quit LC (I just couldn't stand anymore the host save scumming after a 1100 credits Rend in 1230 total in a normal/casual run)

maybe it could be activated by limiting a player count to 1 or adding a solo option to "public" and "friends"

Umhh... It would be impossible because the entities are managed server side and you are managed by your client

You would pause your game but entities would still chase you
