Just an update on this 100% charge; looks like they fixed this issue and they capped the commission fee to 10% when you start to run a node yourself. I've just started my own node and went through the (easy) steps. Looks like it is super easy to do. For now it is running on my own PC, but if it works out well, I'll move it to a VPC in the cloud on Azure.
