Hey, I've recently started playing valorant again but the last couple days I have been getting rolled in dm. I think I'm under ranked from my experience of playing on my alt account with my mates (over 1.5kd in gold/plat lobbies over 40 games) but I simply haven't played enough games in soloq on either account for my rank to settle (I would guess somewhere in diamond but I'm not sure).

Regardless, my dm winrate and kd is complete ass compared to pros so I clearly have lots of room for improvement, so I'd appreciate an unbiased perspective on my mechanics so I know what I'm doing wrong. Also not sure what rank the average dm lobby is but mine seem to be filled with ascendants and immortals which makes no sense considering the ranks of my two accounts (plat 2 and gold 1). Thanks a lot 🙂

Hello if I were you I wouldn't be concerned about your gunfights in general, but if you want to improve them i noticed that you often weren't killing players on the first few shots

You reckon my movement/peeks/crosshair placement etc is generally alright?

In general there definitely good for your rank, and in some cases better than mine so I wouldn't worry about that for now if I were you.

I agree, your overall mechanics seem to be really good. Crosshair placement / pre-aim / not swinging too-wide or too shallow / taking time to land shots / knowing when to commit to fights. What I did notice was your movement is bad when you whiff your first couple of shots and the enemy starts strafing left and right, you kinda had a similar problem that I had where I would take small steps left and right even when the enemy hasn't even tagged you once (2:38). After noticing this mistake, I looked at how Zekken plays gunfights as well as Florescent from Shopify rebellion. What I got from it is that they ever RARELY or often not even do this ADAD short strafing (Of course, we know that they have godlike aim and first bullet accuracy) but when they do whiff the first couple of shots, they would take a wider strafe either left or right and aim while doing so.

Basically, here's how they aim.
Kill
Moving -> See enemy -> Fast flick (While moving)-> stop movement (counterstrafe) and Microadjust -> Shoot -> Move on.

If they miss: Moving -> See enemy -> Fast flick (While moving)-> stop movement (counterstrafe) and Microadjust -> Shoot -> Miss -> Strafe left / right wider -> Aim (while moving) -> stop movement (counterstrafe) and micro adjust -> Shoot -> IF tag body then spray -> If whiffed -> repeat process.
