@candid whale do you have any personal insights into your gameplay, about what went wrong this game? (just so I don't repeat everything that you already know)

#

yeah, sorry, let me watch it through again and write down what i notice

#

general:
stupid comms throughout, over-comm. ends up costing us a few rounds
keep on calling to flank, but bitch out/too scared to go for it because i think plat 1s are omnipotent menaces. also doubt that we could wrap before they take site - no faith in team holding. not sure if that should even factor in, though.

specific:

0:33 - bad consideration to smoke c with nobody on site, kj turret not going off.
1:30 - crosshair staring at where im going to hop up stairs, not ready for a fight
2:15 - i need to be getting the fuck out of site when all that drops, or at least figure out a way to isolate better than blinding short and running out. get caught with my pants down once the fight starts and i realize i'm in a losing position with no help where i am
2:47 - awful comm
4:00 - stupid rotate thinking i could anticipate the site
4:26 - need to be fighting with my kj, ready to swing off her contact. was thinking i could hold her other side of the box, but that clearly wasn't effective
4:30 - round is for sure lost, need to be more decisive with ducking behind corner and swinging out when i feel is right, or just saving
5:06 - no plan, not ready to play on site - brain turned off
5:53 - was thinking about the timing when i commed my garage was open, but wasn't confident in comming that for some reason
6:20 - got lucky my team won their 50's, still not sure if i should have dropped to fight in smoke with team, or stayed up on the box. could definitely have turned out different if they lost and i was still standing up there when the smoke faded - really depended on them holding the other side.
7:10 - need to be sprinting over to c if they're fighting our site players, and worrying about b later.
7:19 - so incredibly lucky gold players suck
7:25 - no awareness, subconsciously thought there was a smoke for some reason, tunnel visioned on my fight with reyna.
8:32 - look at c for some reason - didnt realize kj had a flank

8:42 - too excited to fight after flash, dont both properly peeking
9:45 - okay play if i had smoked long/looked at minimap/called someone to hold it more bluntly - too much faith there
10:45 toxic comms because i made a shitty play
11:15 - so incredibly lucky reyna doesnt see me, not sure if the tp was a bad play, though
11:30 - not sure what i could have done at this point, really need advice. maybe could have tped ct, or held close in middle and trusted they hold my left side?
12:55 - not trusting my intuition, needed to commit to the swing there
13:35 - had no idea how to be holding site w/reyna, need to figure that out
13:45 - forgot that gold players dont fake
14:08 - not sure if i played that right, maybe should have pushed farther up site with team? only reason i didn't was because i was afraid of the swing from short
15:15 bad peek, didnt trust teammate on right, otherwise i wouldve got my back against the wall to slice the pie further from the wall
16:53 - trying to call that with three seconds left lmao
17:00 - even though i was right, i need to be making more direct calls like 'flashed some c long' instead of 'yup its c'
17:30 - not sure if peeking right was the play before tping away
no real timestamp, but after i tped away should i have back up somewhere else? was really afraid of taking a 1v2 and losing but in avoiding that i gave up a lot of space.
18:45 - needed to ask reyna to hold garage, i guess
20:05
20:18 - held that really fucking passively lmao, if sage was peeking i should have peeked with her.
20:22 - if thats any other gun im just dead there, took no time to aim properly.
19:57 util out as if her swinging with a flash isnt to be expected
21:09 - crosshair too low

22:22 - really sloppy tp, still have no info where they are
23:05 - left skye to die alone, needed to go with her
23:50 - really sloppy tp, realize shortly after i could get peeked from any side and just die

part 2

24:57 - hindsight 20/20, but maybe could have tped site? also just unlucky
26:17 - not sure what i could have done diff tbh, could have just gotten outplayed. would be really grateful for outside opinion
27:50 - gold.
28:57 - panicked, needed to just tp out. probably still die but it's a better chance than rawdogging the omen blind and whatever else
30:40 - not sure if it was too late to blind there, need your opinion on that.
31:00 - comm cost us the round
32:20 - know i played this wrong, would really appreciate opinion on what the correct way to play that is. got really lucky my teammates won their fights.
34:48 that tp cost us the round, i needed to fight up with them.
34:57 prob still die, but i should at least sit back to buy a little more time, or if im going to swing, try to get a proper shot off.

Round 1:
I like the buy, it is the same one I do every pistol! However, you do not buy a shadestep, which I REALLY recommend you do, especially with such a positioning dependent weapon as the frenzy.
You get stuck when smoking, when you should be able to use the minimap to navigate. Try to practice this a bit in a custom, as this is a recuring problem in this replay.

Positioning on top of the box with frenzy is dubious. Whilst elevated positions are good, this box on site has very little room to manouver, and as such, you are practically a sitting duck if they swing you. You should be playing either on the other side, or close to the smoke to finess (and because fast moving targets are really difficult to hit in pistol round).

#

Round 2:
Here comes a concept you need to be able to understand as a smoke player: The only smoke that the enemy needs to respect is the ones that you are holding. You send out short and a long smoke (a bit late because you didn't get any info toward long), but then you are not ready to hold the smoke on short. This is a major problem, as this just allows them to push through without any repercussions.

Another thing about this round is the shadestep: If you had been on the elevated position close to short, they would not be able to push out so easily, and you could have saved the round with a nice 2k, or a contain.

Also, you gave up when you were out in the open, instead of trying to buy time for your teamates. You even had a ghost: that could have been another kill!

#

Round 3:
Nothing I wish to touch too deeply on.

#

Round 4:
Good round

#

Rount 5:
A rather slow rotation, especially since they have hard commited every singe take up until this round.
You could have shadestepped behind site instead of smoking main, so that it would take a bit less time.

#

Round 6:
Your calls preround are very late. You should start comming the moment that the preround starts, so that your teamates have a chance to rotate around in time, or buy weapons.
Horrible blind toward mid, you blind your sage.
You then throw a 4v3, because you decide to swing mid window from garage with a spectre. On ecos, you really need to think tactically from your weapons strenghts and weaknesses. You could have smoked window and shadestepped close so that you could minimize the distance between you and the enemy.

#

Round 7:
Unforunate round, your teamates threw. However, you should have had a plan before you started the round, so that you don't just stand around and start throwing out smokes everywhere without a follow up that you and your teamates can follow: You could have commed "I am smoking close long, hold it, I go short", and your conversion on this round goes up a lot.

#

Round 8:
Good rotate, okay round, not stellar crosshair placement against the skye.

#

Round 9:
Slow on the rotate, but not much you can do here.

#

Round 10:
It was at this point I also realized that you really never ads ever, nor do you jumpspot anything. These are skills that you really need to be able to do consistently if you want to be able to gain info and contest longer angles, which you almost never do.

#

Round 11:
Bad smoke toward long, but you know this already.
Yes, the peek was very poor. Question is why you needed to take such a deep peek when they aren't up to site yet. You could also have routed toward heaven so that you would be able to acomplish more on site, assuming that they didn't smoke it.

#

Round 12:
Fine way to push, could have routed up garage to fight the B site player, and prevent a rotate.

#

Round 13:
Late preround comm, and you didn't comm your smokes.

#

Round 14:
Bad blind and positioning: You are really pushing it with the range on the spectre here. In reality, if Omen was tp'd on a vertical angle here, you are dead. Also, you did not use your shadesteps to do anything, which is a problem.

#

Round 15:
Where are the smokes? Where is the tp down sewers to break a timing? Where is the blind onto site so that you teamates can scale and take space? Where is the shadestep toward the other side of short so that you can fight them from two angles at once?
This is just you running up and your team winning the round for you.

#

Round 16:
Fine round

#

Rount 17:
Once again with the smokes: by the time you have thrown your first smoke, a stronger omen player will have smoked garage, either with a normal smoke or with a oneway, blinded onto site, and would be ready to smoke ct from cubby. Could have just jumpspoted the left side quick, and then started smoking, or trusted that your teamates won't lose that fight.
Now, after you are up long, you could have shadestepped either to site, or up on the box close to long, so that you will not be contained on long. Instead, you unpeek, and then run into the spam. (USE SHADESTEPS PLEASE)

#

Round 18:
"Wait are you guys peeking C?", you say whilst looking at them through a wall, instead of looking down short, or doing anything on the map. Look at your minimap before the round starts, it will help.
You go up long, but KJ mollies it, and because your heaven smoke has missed, you get destroyed. This could have been avoided by you hitting your smoke, backing up after the mollie starts, and either waited it out or shadestepped past it.

#

Round 19:
Once fade ults here, you could have tp'd to site to or to hell to avoid the swing.

#

Round 20:
You get stuck in the corner, you are going to die here either way. Might as well have let your teamate die and get the free frag onto garage, and then blinded ct to try to get another, or to delay enough so that you can shadestep toward site. This is not a position that you should be winning.,

#

Round 21:
Nothing interesting

#

Round 22:
You are winning the round: it is 5v4 with the spike down, and no ults on their side to do anything about it. So you decide to blind ct, you don't peek of it, you do not tp into corner, but into short, essentially giving them a 2v4 on site. You just really need to hold space here yourself.

#

And this, infact, is the last round

wow, that is really, really helpful

thank you so much

i got really scared after that ping for some reason, so instead of tping hell to fight somewhere else, or even just chilling default, i hid in that smoke and left them to ie

#

also didnt realize how much use i was missing on my shadestep - really helps to hear spots i should be using it (ie. crossing out of smoke)
