it just sits there even with power given to it. i have to de and re construct it to fix it, which breaks the farm a bit.

I have the same issue from time to time. my most reliable spinny contraption is a smallish windmill bearing one, so maybe try that? I've found they'll get stuck the bigger they are and more often if it's a mechanical bearing
