Is Squad 'touching' routers?
Is Squad Server Browser 'overloading' routers?
Is the Squad Servers Browser overloading routers?
Important to say: here, in my case, that overload happens 4 times in 5 goes.
I have seen my router drop out 2 times. I think both times was when I opened the server browser. All the lights went out and needed to restart router.
I believe this is due to denial of service max pings per second limit being hit. My router does have that setting. Next time it does it I will adjust that setting.
Even reducing the Internet MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) directly to the router, after rebooting etc, Squad's servers browser still crashing the router! Router panel > Network Settings > Broadband:
#1 Internet = 1492 (default)
#2 Gpon = 1500 (default)
Tested and fails:
#1 = 1400
#2 = 1500
Steam pinned = 500
#1 = 1000
#2 = 1500
Steam pinned = 500
#1 = 600
#2 = 1500
Steam pinned = 500
#1 = 500
#2 = 1500
Steam pinned = 500
#1 = 500
#2 = 1500
Steam pinned = 250
So I am back to default:
#1 = 1492
#2 = 1500
Steam pinned = 500
Does the router have security>firewall>dos? Manual says it does. I would try turning it off for a test. Or see if you can adjust higher allowing more pings before triggering.
steam's settings are known and expected to not influence the network traffic of squad because it uses EOS for browser/matchmaking not steam
You just found the "issue"!
Once I turned the Dos off, the Squad's servers browser came back as usual (showing all server pings and no more FPS drops).
No clue how that Dos function got enabled in my end.
Thanks
