Dear Offworld Industries Team,
I am writing this report with a heavy heart. I am not just a casual gamer; I am a dedicated soldier of Squad. Over the past two years, I have poured more than 1,000 hours into this game. I have lived on your virtual battlefields, led squads to victory, and experienced the unique camaraderie that only this game can offer. I have been an evangelist for Squad, convincing countless friends to buy the game so we could fight side-by-side.
However, since the transition to Unreal Engine 5 on September 15, 2025, my experience—and the experience of the community I love—has been shattered.
I am writing to passionately protest the decision to force this engine upgrade. To put it bluntly: the UE5 update is killing the game for us.
Before the update, Squad was perfect. It ran smoothly, and it was accessible. But now, my machine, which served me faithfully for years, can no longer handle the game. What used to be an immersive tactical experience has turned into a stuttering, unplayable slideshow. The tragedy is that I am not alone. The group of friends I used to play with every single night—my actual "squad"—has fallen apart. They haven't quit because they lost interest; they quit because the game physically won't run on their computers anymore.
This update is fatal to the game's spread and survival. It is heartbreaking to see a masterpiece become unplayable for the very people who supported it the most.
I am begging you: Please consider reverting to Unreal Engine 4.
Give us back the smooth performance. Give us back our framerates. Most importantly, give us back our friends. We don't need ray-tracing or hyper-realistic lighting if it means we can't play together. We just want the Squad we fell in love with.
Please don't let this game die on the altar of graphical fidelity. Bring back the accessibility that made Squad a legend.
With respect and hope,
A Devoted Squad Veteran

The amount of people playing the game has not gone down drastically, it is at 16k up from a low of 13k just after the update
