#A blow in close combat with a rifle butt, a blow with a shovel

It wouldn't serve too much of a purpose, and we already have knives for melee combat (which I think are a better option than these two)
I agree. But for a variety of mechanics, it would be cool!
Its an entirely new mechanic that needs to be programmed, animated both third and first person and then bound to a key. Its simply isnt worth the effort needed for a mechanic already fulfilled with the knife. Not to mention the people that would panic spam it or the people that would fat finger the button by accident then come in here to complain about it
What about the transition to a new engine with its new features? I don't think it would be difficult, if only there was a will!
Some people like the idea, others don't.
In our game, many things are done close to reality; many armies use a bayonet-shovel! Didn't you know?
I agree with this, I have no idea why people would be against this other than that they like the sterile, clunky, 2 guys slowly reloading or switching weapons in close quarters awkward moments instead of a brutal buttstrike or bayonet fight
This would be so easy to implement with maybe 3 animation montages, one for pistols, one for rifles, one for grenades (punch)
Games like red orchestra take advantage of these moments to create brutal tension by having melee, something PR never had because of engine limitations
I'm not against it, I just don't see big value in it personally.
Because, melee fights are extremely rare in the game to warrant such a system.
Also, we don't really know how easy it is to implement. Some rifles are different in shape, so some might share an animation while others will need separate animations. I'm also not sure how easy to implement other factors of the system, that's something a dev would tell you and no one else.
The knife does a decent, if not good enough job for melee combat right now. More is better sure, but... eh. Just not that needed imo. It's a fun idea still.
Do you know how annoying it is to slowly switch from a weapon without ammo to a knife? It's absurd to put your primary weapon on safety when you need to quickly draw another.
That's imo a quirk with the game mechanics and animation speed, and it's not exclusive to the knife. Tbh, it's not a big deal and you can relatively adapt to it.
It's impossible to adapt to this. It's an artificial delay due to the rules of weapon handling and the generally leisurely pace of action, like at a shooting range in peacetime. I want quick interaction, but I see the irrational diligence of a "good boy." If I run out of ammo and there's an enemy nearby, that means I'm dead, because when switching to another weapon, the character moves very slowly and does so slowly. I could hit with the butt of my gun, but I can't quickly close the distance. The current situation makes it impossible to rely on a knife.
Hitting someone with your gun would need to do significant less damage than a knife, and then the enemy with ammo in the weapon could still shoot you. I dont think it would help you in the situation you described
It doesn't matter whether it's a pistol or a machine gun, the main thing is that the blow disorients the target or reduces the accuracy of his weapon, so that there is a chance to kill him in hand-to-hand combat.
Or, or, instead of hitting someone with the stock of your rifle, why not just go the sks route and have a keybind to fix the knife in your inventory (which in 99% of cases is a bayonet anyway) to your gun
And then either keep the bayonet fixed or have the option to remove it to use grenade launchers
I honestly agree with this idea, use a fix bayonet animation for most of the rifles compatible with it.
I'm so glad we're discussing this! Mechanics like these make the game better, especially the immersion into the battle atmosphere.
It looks like there won't be any hand-to-hand combat in the game)
This will take time. I'd be interested to hear the game's creators' opinions. Perhaps the developers haven't yet addressed this Discord thread.
Let's hope for the best.
I would say give the ability of rifles with bayonets attached a faster melee attack vs switching to a knife
