#Postpone UE5 till at least 2026 and give us quality of life updates

I think generally speaking OWI falls short in the software development lifecycle process.
Long stretches of nothing but promises with releases introducing their own issues that need to be addressed and very little maintenance engineering in between major updates.
They might want to rethink their team topology and spin up a Kanban-oriented squad focused on QoL improvements and bug fixes that players have been asking for.
Strike a balance between this long term, big picture stuff while still delivering meaningful updates made necessary by those very same major releases.

100% OWI needs to take a breath from ue5 for a bit. Push ICO fixes, commendations and maybe some content to hold people over.

Im pretty sure itd be better if the devs can get UE5 sorted out first, release that, then make the necessary QOL changes instead of doing things the other way round

and my point is I am feeling more and more like thats a VERY big if

#

I feel like there is also an element of the sunk cost fallacy here

#

But yes, IF they can get it working soon, stable, and not kill the player base, it would 100% be better to swap their systems and then start working on that

#

since it means less that they have to retroactively match to UE5 later down the line

urban ledge

I think they wont because they dont want to worry about releasing updates that wont directly convert to ue5 without effort

# vast ridge But yes, IF they can get it working soon, stable, and not kill the player base, ...

Exactly, so why work on QOL improvements now only for it to get borked by UE5 later down the line, or worse, spend time on QOL fixes now, and delay UE5 so that the fixes arent affected, simply put UE5 is way too far down the dev pipeline to be simply sidelined for other things. I'd rather they fix whatever issues related to UE5, release within this year, then spend more time doing the necessary bug fixes and optimisations after

At this point it's too late for ifs, we're multiple playtests deep into UE5, which is supposedly slated for a summer release somehow, you can't just hold all that work to start new work on things that may or may not last if the UE5 update were to be delayed

vast ridge

The game is slowly becoming stale in my opinion. MANY of the long time players in Australia are feeling the same, and I fear that if we don't get something soon then we may be looking at a playerbase that is very small by the time UE5 is actually in a good state.

As I said, I fear the devs will eventually try to rush it out the door if they feel some kind of pressure to do so (I hope they don't, i'd rather they take the time to fix it)

They don't need to work on QOL improvements, they already have them done and ready to go for UE5. Now if it's an extra boat load of work to port those over to UE4, then sure, that is an issue and would change my evaluation, but if its not, then I feel it would be doable.

Squad has seen worse times than this, regardless, it's wiser to simply hold off updates until UE5 is sorted out, whether some people cannot wait for that is their issue tbh, unless of course the devs come out stating UE5 has been delayed or is impossible, then sure there's some merit to saying updates are needed in the meantime

vast ridge
#

You make a fair point, but I still disagree that it's the right course of action.

limber sable
#

To me it all lies in the status of UE5, as it stands nothing new has been said about it, so I assume its still due for release, albeit a rather late one as usual. However, if its still far from a desirable state then ideally I'd want some updates in between until UE5 can be properly introduced since waiting for it is pretty much uncertain at this point unless if the devs are really transparent on what theyre currently working on

OWI is in Canada so northern summer, but I wont be surprised if theyre referring to southern summer instead considering its already the end of August

Basically you want to never update to a near current engine because of ico.

Sorry I just saw you put recoil and sway and someone else mentioned ico.
Don't agree about the rigs though. The bar is set pretty low in terms of requirements.

Tbh its very expensive and time consuming to do

Tbh I’m worried currently that some of the dev time that would be best directed at UE5 is going towards other aspects of the game which just cause more issues. Assuming that to be true, we need fewer non-UE5 changes, not more.

vast ridge
#

Seems we will get it before end of September if that is true

I've the state of the sdk is not good

#

Ue5 squad needs tonnes more time in the oven

#

Like 2-3 months more minumum

heavy saddle
#

Not sure how that helps.
Squad has been on ue4 for nearly 10 years and it still sucks.

heavy saddle
#

I don't much since playing on the ue5 version.

vast ridge
#

So the base mechanics of the game aren't why you played UE4?

heavy saddle
#

I play because squad has zero alternative.
Basically what I'm saying is they have had near 10 years and there are a ton of bugs if you look in bug reports for ue4.
I don't believe if they even delayed ue5 for 2 years it will magically be without bugs.
I have playtested ue5 and as it was in the 5.3 tests I prefer to current 4.27.

i have 200fps on blackcoast on eu4. on empty local server

harju with full server/on empty local server
same spot
-95fps
You told me that it's gonna be better on ue5?
I played five playtests and it was horrible. 50fps. High resolution, low resolution, fsr, nonfsr, doesn't matter. 50 fps and thats it
