Screen resolution makes a big difference. 1080p is pretty bad. How can the monitor display a hundred camo blotches with about 8 pixels.
Kind of typical. Make sure your FOV is the default of 90.
If you still can't see you need a bigger monitor, bigger resolution so everything is more detailed and crisp and distant objects on the horizon have more pixels to work with, or a combination of both.
I while ago I tried out a 75" inch TV for the hell of it, at 3840x2160(4k) and I could easily see 800+ meters. Just standing normally was like being zoomed in.
