The MGS was retired back in 2022, and has since been replaced by the M10 Booker, It has the 105mm M35 Primary cannon and a 7.62 coax and a M2 commanders weapon.

The devs can't just constantly update factions and replace their vehicles cuz new ones appear. There are quite some factions in Squad and they plan on adding more and those irl armies get new toys regulary, the devs just can't keep up with that.
Also, when they add a faction, they usually add the most common weapons and vehicles they have irl to give an authentic experience. Maybe that M10 is newer and is replacing the mgs, but is still not the most common in the army yet

Ultimately, it's a good thing, because it allows OWI to give us more unique content without being bound by timelines and like choppa said, it allows for creative freedom

Even if it is more common than the mgs, the mgs is added to fill a specific role that a tracked vehicle would not add up to as well
