they do have bolt action for some country . canada can use the c14 timberwolf shooting 338 lapua magnum . russian have also one bolt action i dont remember the name . and there is also taliban that can use a ww2 scoped bolt action gun . and maybe more
All of the above are part of a kit called sniper
Insurgents have marksman AND sniper which use SVD and Mosin respectively
Currently you can have 4 marksmen or 2 snipers or both if you're insurgents
per team
the sniper class in the game is only a markman whit a bolt rifle . it dont have the true zoom of x25 . at 800 meter whit full zoomed you see the target very small when in real life is still pretty big whit the zoom . and include the sniper class in a different squad whit more tools and a spotter and true zoom and all will be a lot better
here what x25 at 1000 yards look like we can see the target big enough in the scope . in the game at 800 meter is pretty much a pixel . so the zoom is wrong here a pic of in game . the target is at 800 meter . we dont even see the soldier he trying to shot is like 2 pixel size
Alright then you have me for the sight accuracy. I just don't see people utilizing anything that long range because the maps are generally close-mid range shooting
I kinda call bullshit on this picture, CAF sniper does have a 25x variable optic and when zoomed in that far the cross on the optic is larger
You arent using 25x zoom at all in that pic
Also Marksman is a fire support role which is completely different to a Sniper
because of the wrong zoom level it make it impossible to shot at long range . maps are big enough to be able to shot at around 1000 meter for extrem range
One should not replace the other since both are designed for 2 different things

i never said it was me . and i dont know how play i just find a video . and in the game is not because they have put x25 in the stats that mean is the correct amount of zoom and in the video why not zoom fully to see is target correctly ? im pretty sure he will not make the shot for himself harder .

Picture you posted is before 6.0 update which did not have variable optics and only used 8x or 10x magnification and had no PIP optics

I really dont see a use case for a sniper team in Squad. Long range combat is mostly irrelevant in Squad, and information are usually gathered at short ranges as well. It would be a noobtrab role that consumes two players who could do useful stuff instead.
The normal sniper kits already underperform significantly and are not really useful, this would be worse as those small squads could do nothing else.
Marksman is the least useful role in this game.
Agree. Making a spotter class would unfortunately not fix the issue as well. Pretty much No one who plays marksman in todays squad wants to work with anyone else in the squad, and the rangefinder would be more useful for lat/hat shots than a single bullet
I think this is the correct critique.
While I've always felt like the marksman class is missed potential, I do think they need to find creative ways to make the marksman more useful.

i could definitely see squad benefitting from something like HLL where theres the armor/recon/inf sections divided and then with your idea there could be a recon team that only opens if the commander allows it (sort of like how a squadmate requests to use a vehicle)

If you think of how the sniper role is used in real life, 70% of the time It is just used for recon. The other 20% is actually providing overwatch, which doesnt work in squad because nobody plays It like a tactical milsim with actual strategy. And the last 10% of the time you might be hunting an actual target, which once again is useless because if you kill a commander in squad he just respawns or keeps commanding from the respawn page. Sniper is only a kit to provide some variation and give new players an easy and inticing kit to rock. Theres no way they could make marksmen useful unless they add a cheesy mechanic like live marking enemies or a spotter flare or something equivalent.

what if you made it so marksman kills on squad leaders counted for 2 tickets instead of one, and commanders counted for 3 tickets.

I like the idea of giving the commander the power to open this up. Kinda like a checks and balances lol. If the commander is an asshole and doesn’t want to open it, sls can vote them out, and if there is a shitty sl who just wants a big gun shoot very far, commander can stop that
