#Proximity voice chat & better surrendering

So for better communication between players and more memorable moments there should be only 2 things, proximity chat with enemy team (while just talking/talking on the radio) since "Words are potent weapons for all causes, good or bad" and you could listen in enemy's plan, and the surrendering which is a great combination with the previous proximity chat idea, so its nice if you could surrender by holding a special bind that makes you drop your backpack with weapons automatically turning you in a unarmed class, interacting with backpack will let your items back

proximity chat between teams just leads to cancerous communities. The only thing I could see is if you are talking in game they could let the enemy hear some prerecorded audio in that factions language so they know that you are talking in local

there is already cancerious communities in talking between teammates, nothing can be worse

#

have you played GE it can be worse lol

quiet dagger
#

and magically everyone just talks using mental connection

viral mural
#

just turns into COD lobby spamming slurs when you kill someone

quiet dagger
#

then just make it that enemies cant hear you while you are dead 🤷‍♂️

I mean yeah that would be better but it doesn't really add anything to the game maybe if there was a reason to surrender

quiet dagger
#

well devs added unarmed class so it should be atleast used somehow

the only way i see prox chat between teams being interesting is when they redo insurgency as a gamemode. Like if they ever add civilians like in project reality mod

I actually find it useful. Sure you get some trash talk. Last night they gave away their new hab because I saw the red in chat. Also good for finding where they are coming from.

squad 44 have it and it work perfectly fine . so there i no reason squad cant have it

Squad 44 does not have enemy VOIP

#

It's never coming to vanilla, has been tested before, and is a fundamentally terrible idea.

#

Talking in local voip is just detrimental with this enabled and so most people begin using external comms like discord. It results in much less communication used in game.

#

It also encourages micspam, like making sure the enemies around your body cannot focus or hear your team approaching.

#

It's simply not going to happen at any point, it's a very, very bad feature for vanilla. Thankfully for you, they already enabled it so that mods can have this functionality if they want! So just go play a mod.

What if I dont want to play a game polluted with lots of shitty mods, i want enjoy things in vanilla game

#

i dont know why proximity voice chat is a problem yall just mad

#

If you have played insurgency sandstorm, it has prox chat and its made pretty well

#

you just act like the proximity chat range will be 10000 meters

It is, optional for mods.

#

That’s the only place it will ever be.

inland widget
#

Too bad.

#

I promise you, you are not the first and won’t be the last to request it, it’s not happening.

It’s a terrible feature for vanilla and antithetical to the game’s goals of encouraging teamwork.

#

Yes, to complement in game comms. This change basically moves all comms to discord.

#

It’s been done before, we know the results already

quiet dagger
#

what do you mean, you expect to be like?:
(game starts)
-Hey guys! Lets play on discord because proximity chat is a fucking terrible idea!!! I feel like the enemy could hear me YARDS away!
-Yeah!!! You are right, add me and other squadmates!

inland widget
#

No. And I don’t “expect” it to, we have literally already tried this feature in the past—we KNOW it’s bad.

quiet dagger
#

for example?

#

People just communicate less in local. That’s it.

#

Or just micspam if dead talk is allowed.

#

It was done in ye olde Project Reality days, when they first got proximity voice chat working. They experimented with hearing enemy voip. Many of the OWI devs were around in those days. It didn’t last and was never revisited because it created a truly cancerous environment

#

If you like the idea so much go try mods. You’ll find a lot of the same experience—people don’t really communicate much and local comms are just used for goofy shit like playing the IED ringtone on a soundboard.

#

It caters to a more casual environment, not one that wants to foster teamwork between squads in local.

quiet dagger
#

alright

#

an extreme case

#

proximity chat like another bind

#

and hearing others prox chat being an optional feature

inland widget
#

No

#

I don’t know how you don’t understand, but it’s not happening, flat out

#

Be happy they enabled it for mods

#

People can enjoy that kind of casual gameplay on modded Squad and we won’t have to suffer that on standard servers
