#Battle rifles max damage

At the release of ICO update G3 familiy of rifles, FAL and MPT were pretty bad to use due to their handling, optic misalignment, sway and recoil. Then to try and make them good OWI buffed their damage to 165 to be a one shot kill up to 20m.

Since then their handling characteristics were altered and are better to use (still not great but better than ICO release), so I think its time to get those rifles back to what they were, aka same max damage as the other 7.62x51 rifles like M110 and L129.

Biggest reason to revert that damage buff is this, the damage drop off is not a curve like all other weapons but a clif. It feels like RNG because you might think you are within those 20m but jokes on you enemy was 20.1m away and you only did 86 damage to them.
Second is basically that now with new handling characteristics those weapons are god like in CQB and people seem to be spraying any praying due to knowing only 1 shot is enough to kill.

My suggestion is this:

  • Drop the max damage to 86 like all other 7.62x51 rifles

  • Slightly reduce the optic misalignment and recoil further

  • Reduce the revive timer when killed by those weapons, now this would include ALL 7.62x51, 7.62x54R and 7.62x39. This way any rifle thats 7.62 has that buff

  • OPTIONALLY reduce SVD and PKM/PKP max damage to 90-92 and have all the 7.62 rifles do 0.6HP/s bleed compared to all other rifles doing 0.3HP/s bleed. This like I said is optional not something that needs to happen.

Personally, I'd be satisfied if all rifles with 7.62 caliber were 1 shot close range. And not only the G3, FAL and MPT. And like you said if the changes were to revert back, then the handling needs to be better.

God that would be hell if they managed to camp a HAB

120 rounds in a box with one shot kill potential

sounds good

Really they just need to revert the 1hko, what they do after that isn't super important imo (at least for the G3 & FAL).

#

And rework damages to match calibre better across the entire game

BRs already have better suppression stat compared to carbines and rifles, they get better penetration too

Yeah now that the handling issues are mostly solved they don't need the 1hko

MPT-76 still needs some love ofc

If it could pen building walls then it would actually matter.

BRs can pen more walls in wooden buildings than other rifles.
Most noticeable on the newish buildings in the south of manic or the few replaced buildings in Oru village on Narva.
5.56 can go through one wall, BRs penetrate 2 or more walls. For some buildings they can even shoot right through them.

Sadly, most maps where you get to use BRs have buildings that cannot be penned at all - fallujah, mutaha.
So, thanks to that, the penetration advantage of BRs is negligible at best.

Honestly I like the 1 short potential of the battle rifles and am okay with fighting against their 1 shot potential. That said you do bring up some other good points, the damage fall off shouldn’t be a Cliff but an rng fall off where past 20m its a chance to 1 shot.

Also yes they should bring ALL 7.62x51 & 54 rifles to this same model. There’s nothing special about battle rifles so all full sized rounds should be the same. 7.62x39 should be halfway between battle rifles and carbines since it is an intermediate cartridge still.

From my post on this same topic:

"1hko in Squad is harmful to the way CQB plays out. Typical CQB in Squad relies on landing multiple hits on your opponent, with an important decision-matrix around when to bandage, tanking a hit to clear a room, etc. When a faction has access to 1hko rifles in CQB it massively dumbs down this process and makes the gameplay less interesting.

I propose the following:

  1. Bring the MPT-76 and any other BRs up to the same handling standard as the current G3 (currently it has worse stats).
  1. Remove the 1hko range on all BRs.
  1. Buff limb damage multiplier on BRs so they get more consistent 2hkos in CQB."

The issue is that 1hko with primary rifles causes major game pace issues

well why couldnt BRs shake up the typical CQB formula? with the worse handling but greater 1 hit kill potential (all weapons can 1 hit kill already in CQB BRs jus have more room for error) it becomes more of a game of proper pacing and ensuring your weapon and character are prepared for a fight. Not to mention both BR factions have extra hand grenades specifically to compensate in CQB.

Okay I did do some reading, BR weapon damage absolutely should not be high enough to 1 hit kill on a limb shot, lowering damage value to 140 or changing limb damage should be done to change that.
