Imagine walking through a forest and all of the sudden you hear trees falling to your right and you look to see enemy armor crashing through the forest. You're unaware enemy armor has spotted you while you're setting up a FOB in a building and a wall comes crashing down after a tank shoots a shell to open a visual. Imagine you're in a building and an enemy tank comes through the wall. Imagine you've been shot down while flying in a heli and you smash into a building only for it to crumble under the weight and momentum of the wreck. IMAGINE you're suddenly in the middle of an artillery or mortar barrage and there's trees/buildings getting damaged all around you while you desperately try to run for safety as to not get crushed or atomized.

This is the kind of physics we need in Squad. Not only would it make the overall experience more fun. But more immersive and realistic as to what would happen in war.

Granted, this would take a lot of optimization in order to get it ready to be shipped out. But I think this is something needed for both vanilla and modded squad.

This is more of a suggestion for an entirely different game.

Destruction of trees and fences shouldn’t be too difficult

FPS? Worry about TPS instead, a tank driving through a forest would crash the server kekw

Name one Unreal Engine 4 online game that allows 100 players per server, has destruction, +- nice graphics... And i'll say that this is not a space technologies.

I don't think UE4 has much destruction built into the game unless they're static objects specifically designed in the map.

If they ever move to UE5 I really, really hope destruction is a top priority. It's the number one thing missing in my mind. Would completely change combat. It's too bad it can't come out now because I feel like they could totally grab the Battlefield player base and 2142 is really rough at the moment.

And the game is: ARK:SE

There is 70ppl but anyway

One of the Galactic Contention devs has stated when I brought this up in their server that "Unreal actually supports destructible meshes pretty well now, it's just not networked well." And followed up to being asked if it was possible they said, "Not unless OWI finds a way to optimize their networking stuff by a significant margin, and then optimize the destruction network stuff by a significant margin."

Like trees and small buildings

But high buildings and trenches ☠️

Biggest issue is networking and basic game map loading already partially solves that by rendering what the player sees and a little outside of it. I don't really know a lot about networking so this is hypothetical mind mumbo jumbo that idk if it's even possible from here on, but what if it put the information about destroyed environment assets in a cache for specific parts of the map and sent them out to players nearby and left the others who wouldn't be able to see/know about it "in the dark" regarding it.

I feel like we are going to have wait until UE5 but even then do any UE5 games have actual destruction that isn't pre-programmed procedural stuff? And multiplayer that's up to or close to 128?

Isn't PubG using UE5 with destruction now?

Destructuion is something you have to make the game around it in early development. Trying to add it in now you would have to remove some aspects of the game. This was said by OWI devs in one of the SquadChats few years ago, confirming that destruction is not gonna be added to Squad.

#

Its too late to be added game is already unoptimized, trying to add more server load with destruction would be awfull

plus from a balance pov you would need to make it so hard for armor to do anything, i.e. 2-3 HEAT to get through stone wall to prevent them from completely destroying the map and removing cover

TBH I would like to see trenches and dugouts instead of destructive environment. Is that impossible? Like copy the ground layer and past it below actual ground - trenches will be between them xD

They had a ton of enviornmental destruction in Battlefield 1. It wasn't really an issue but you've got to balance out the heavy weapons or cover can quickly be destroyed. They should be considered special and rare. Some fortifications take more hits than others.

On the other hand, it's really fun to have it near the end of a game with a ton of stuff destroyed.

If we had destruction in Squad... it'd be so different. I feel like anything modern armor would absolutely dominate.
