#Trainer School vote & discussion

Maybe have it less like a school and more like a karate class or something?
Here's a basic overview of the idea through the lens of a potential class:
A Pokemon breeder is one of the teachers, and they teach you about the ins and outs of breeding. They tell you what the destiny knot does, about the power items, and about the Everstone.
I was JUST about to mention a breeder class, this would be awesome! Pokemon breeding is the mechanic I get into the most, so having an accessible way to teach people about it would be amazing. Maybe teach them about the Matsuda method and other ways to breed shinies?
Yeah I can't believe the masuda method was never mentioned explicitly until Scarlet/Violet
Maybe you could implement an IV and EV class where you can get to know about these and see your stats. That would be awesome.
And I would like to have something about natures too!
I think this would be a cool way to fill out your notebook as well, have it fill out certain pages as you progress/skip certain classes
Could put the Pokemon type table in there, breeding info, etc
The type table would be great too, yes! Very good ideas imo
Special attack/physical attack and how to differentiate the two and how to effectively use them
Trainer School vote & discussion
Maybe something about tactics or specifics/characteristics about double battles would be great too
It could be cool if you could change nature at school
This would be awesome. Always had a hard time to figure out about how this works
You can change natures with mints
Competitive school
Ya but like then you have to go and find the mints 😂
And you get those from the person who used to be the name rater
will there be special ed classes? That would help trainers like me
Maybe like the school could be a huge tournament
I think it’s a great idea. It would really help teach some players more advanced mechanics.
Smogon ou singles in the school
🤣🤣 I love it
If this were implemented into renegade platinum, I think talking about Acid Rain would be a fun little class
This has incredible potential
totally not stolen from Scarlet/Violet
Suggestion, potentially a course on competitive items and potential roles for pokemon (walls, sweepers, etc.)
If it's even possible perhaps an in-game teambuilder that you can use to check the weaknesses and resistances of your entire team at a glance
Maybe a class explaining certain strategies like weather teams/stall/hyper offense
i like the whole school/building relationships thing from sv and fe3h. Maybe building relationships would be cool to unlock stuff
Also quests
That makes me wonder, since pursuit was removed prior to bdsp, would acid rain still work?
That was so un-explored in scvi
The bonding with the teachers was one of my favorite aspects of Scarlet and Violet tbh
A shame the game kinda puts it aside so many players not even see them
A mega evolution class could be something too or about alola, hisuian and galar forms
I will add, there's a TON of items we want to add to the game, but currently don't know where to add them. This could help
Or idiots like me who don't know what the 20,000 different items/abilities in Pokemon do
Smogon University in-game
just a koffing teaching the class
I think it'd be pretty fun to have a history class that would explain how Sinnoh went from it's DP/BDSP era to this Luminescent era with all these changes and additions. Don't know what items it could give (maybe Hisui evo items like Peat Block that don't appear normally in Sinnoh, if those ever become usable here?), but I just thought this would be a funny idea.
We are adding so much lore
History class would be very cool
Some sv items would be cool to see, like the Punching Gloves or Mirror Herb
Breeding class could be named biology class 😄
This is actually a pretty nice idea TTiN, it will definitely helps a lot to improve the Trainer School.
There's a lot of stuff in there right now, but it all feels rather cobbled together.
plz don’t add the emotion spectrum tests from SV. I will literally die
Got it, adding it for you.
There's so much that can be done with this idea lol
I appreciate the support! I hope you guys can find a way to implement it in-between all this other, more gameplay-based stuff.
I wouldn't stress it
I'm looking for things to keep team members busy while we're working on natdex implementation
You know development's going well when you gotta keep people busy beause there's not enough to do!
team is all focused on work or ScVi at the moment, but I'm about to push for getting 2.0 fixed and finished soon
Kinda forgot about that stuff being a factor too, but hey, it was a nice thought.
We're all just Pokemon fans at heart afterall
True! You don't get 100+ people working on a game for free without them having SOME kind of passion.
Idk if its necessary but it would be cool if the teacher could explain the buffs given to any pokemon you ask them about.
Hard to avoid breaking the 4th wall with this one but they could say things like "Charizard is a Fire/Dragon type with the ability drought."
I don't think the fourth wall matters much in a romhack ngl
if one of purposes is "teaching people intricacies of harder battles", then i feel like teaching people teambuilding would be a good thing, tho thats probably hard to do
Just talk about getting proper coverage, explain stab, explain different team dynamics (ie making a sandstorm team) etc
that would be a good start
ideally explaining what makes a pokemon fit certain role would be good as well
especially when the aim for rebalancing mons is giving them some sort of niche rather than simply making them strong
It would be cool to have some sort of final test that involves beating a niche team, or bringing a 5IV Pokemon with a certain nature, etc
Pog indeed
This one idea is probably too difficult to implement but I like the idea of pokemon puzzles. Basically you and your opponent have preset teams and you have to figure out how to beat them with it.
there should be an npc that has a randomely male or female pokemon and if you beat them with a pokemon of the opposite gender they get pokerus 😨
would be nice to get pokerus somehow for EV training
Could you do me a favor
I'm getting ready for a date so I don't have time to search for videos. Could you find me a video of the BDSP catching tutorial
I have an idea
Pokemon Shining Pearl Walkthrough Part 1 No Commentary Gameplay - Our SHINING Adventure begins [English | 1080p60 Full HD] Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Playthrough
0:00 Intro, character creation
3:39 Twinleaf Town, Meeting Barry
7:00 Starter Pokemon & First Fight
11:20 Way to Sandgem Town
14:21 Professor Rowan
21:52 Goodbye to Mam...
i assume this is what you mean
time stamped to 26:31
Interesting....
It seems there exists a way for the game to hold your Pokemon in work values
@tame talon when I dm you this is what I'm referencing
I think this is a good idea
Gamefreak always mixing their messages, they want competitive to be more accessible but still use flowery language when describing mechanics
tru
they pretty much explained things in pretty straightforward way in sv
giving percentages, explaining how things stack
well yeah
for some people its probably been news that base crit rate is 4%
and that its 12% for stone edge
well thats how it is
ye
base is 4.17%, +1 (like stone edge) is 12.5%
what about scope lens boost or whatever it's called
its +1 to all moves
1%?
no, +1 stage
oh oh
I dont know if this had been said yet, but i like the idea with a gym or science class that explains the abilities Pokemon have in lumi with some ideas how to effectivly use them
The reason for gym class was the idea of solving puzzles using the pokemons ability correctly in battle in order to win
this genuinely sounds awesome and activates my completionist ape brain.
As an extension to this, if these classes were offering items or whatnot, what would the difficulty be of the breeder gifting a ditto from a different country and language to promote that method of shiny hunting/breeding?
They probably have their reasons
Hopefully
A couple of them vote no on pretty much everything lol
Quite goofy ahh of them
well since youre in a school, you could have some exchange students from foreign countries trade you some different country pokemon
that would make more sense in a school enviroment
foreign ditto pog merci beaucoup
something I saw with the Emerald roguelike; NPC who tells you what's needed to evolve a pokemon
honestly love this idea, I hate having to look it up, it breaks immersion lmao
please have an adult NPC in the school who fails every semester
Would it be better to be added to the pokedex along the attack table like ROWE?
It would be nice if even one of the no voters actually gave feedback as to why they don't want this
"School bad"
Must have been team Star
I don't know if it's fair to call them out. We asked for their votes to tally interest, if they don't elaborate they've still cooperated.
It'll just breed less interest in people expressing pleasure or displeasure with ideas if we make a thing out of it.
I just want to know why they think something completely optional should be added.
And the op is Please discuss potential trainer school improvements here.
I don't know if this has already been suggested but having a class teach about the stuff that happened in legends Arceus and the lore for legendary/mythical Pokemon would be pretty cool
I did like the concept of having ||lore classes|| in ScVi
Maybe add in anbin game explanation there of why Incense Burner works to summon regionals not available usually
For those who care
Here's the lore
I am excited to write these tbh
||Dialga and Palkia are enraged and causing mischief from their dimension, causing mons from different times/places to be thrown into Sinnoh. The natdex mons are kinda spooked to be in this dimension/region so they're in hiding. If any of you have seen the Shaymin movie, it absorbs contamination and other stuff, so it's absorbed pollen in the fur/on the skin of mons from other regions and this caused it to sprout flowers that are native to those regions/times. Burning them makes the Pokemon feel comfortable coming out of hiding.||
I'd see interesting a class where you battle with a rental stall team and be taught the value of passive damage 🤔
Add a competitive trainer teacher to teach you the ins and outs of competitive teambuilding 🙂
yes, this is good idea
What about teaching about the in-game AI? Like how they do damage calcs and choose their moves
I agree with DJ, don't want to break the fourth wall just yet
"How bad trainers choose their moves" and "how gym leaders choose their moves"
No yeah it's doable but really high concept
Yeah, fair
Fantina > fake outs 10 times in a row
Fair lol
Have a random student NPC implied to be Dendra :D
||Oh I thought it just worked like the Radio did||
Given that this rom is meant to be a more advanced game, maybe we should have the trainer school topics be more advanced information about lore and game mechanics that players who are deep enough in to be playing a challenging romhack may not know?
rather than the current "The day care exists! here's an egg!"
just a thought that I'm way too busy to be presenting, much less elaborating on. Brain, please stop procrastinating aaaaaaaaaaaa
@dense kelp
could there be an npc explaining how mega evolutions work for us boomers who played pokemon like 20 years ago and haven’t followed the evolution of the game?
Why? Mega evolution isn't in Sinnoh
i thought megas were featured in this mod for some reason, I could be mistaken tho
you give them a stone and as long as it's within the range of the activation ring, it releases gamma radiation and turns them into the hulk variation of themselves until the fight ends.
You won't like me when I'm mega
you're fine, we get asked this daily
