yeah, a direct file overwrite, the exact thing you are meant to avoid by using DLTX

also because this whole adventure demonstrates that you still need to read up on what a root file is and how that works, so I suggest you do that anyway, and learn WHY your original efforts (both mod_actor and mod_zactor) failed

this is my current structure,
if i understand it right it loads LTX (and dltx) files in alphabetical order, the lowest getting priority
a gamma mod has mod_system_satiety_GAMMA.ltx which would come after mine if i didnt have the _zzz_ in it

the reason mod_zactor and mod_actor didnt work, i believe, is because A) they werent the root file nad B) mod_system_satiety_GAMMA.ltx was overwriting what i was trying to edit

As I said it's more comlicated than changing existing stuff. If you want to create a completely new hud for these stuff then yoh would need to create an XML file defining the elements and their position, size then a script file that initializes everything

You add a new element to the XML file and then in the script file that reads and initializes the hud based off of the mentioned XML file you need to also add code to initialize your newly added element. After this it should show up.

I dont understand textures very much, but every glossiness option on Painter always brought some weird map with itself, using the base pbr roughness option and inverting the roughness map always worked well

you mean what part makes the gun unique? if you're wanting it to be a kit, probably check out the other pistols configs that use a kit and see how they made it, if not and you want it to actually be a unique full gun, you can copy and entirety of the configs ltx and paste it but re-write it for the new name and new hud etc

It's a good idea to just browse the scripts closest to calling engine API. Lot of useful stuff is there and even if you just read them once (or just the ones that you're interested in) will help a lot in the future when you develop a mod and remember that there is something somewhere that does what you need ATM. It saved me time multiple times that I knew I don't have to implement something because it's in one of the high level scripts or I just had to slightly modify it.

you have 2 ogf models, one world, that is the item model, that appears in the world as a loose item when dropped, it must have colision boxes and theres some parameters for aligning the model when a player is holding in 3rd view

the other model is the hud, it is what appears in the fps view when youre using it, it has a associated OMF file that has its animations, and the ltx declares animations from that omf file, and from a omf file thats related to the arms, hand and fingers movement, if anything is wrong the game will crash

with a revolver you can take it easy, since it doesnt need the last shot animation, but if you want the hammer to be cocked every shot, then theres one more to make

thats a 9 shot revolver that has no special animations, and no cocking in every shot, id say thats the least you have to make it work

I don't remember if there's a trader on before restock callback, but there's a restock function for sure. I think you should inject your logic there. Then you would also have trader id in your hand and could scan surroundings or the whole map much easier. I think yiu should just scan whole map it's much easier + given default population that's kinda your only viable option

Mod idea, regarding sniper/ bolt action rifles.
in all honesty, i dont know if its even possible to make.
but it would be a very nice function for bolt action rifles and snipers.
if you could either.

hold fire button down after taking a shot, and waiting to load the bolt.
to see where the shot landed.

have a manual reload function for bolt loading, (like presseing reload to load bolt, and hold reload to load the mag)

im just throwing it out there, incase some level 10 modding wizard. knows if its possible to create such a mod.
