I tend to pick my weapons on where I plan to be at a given time. I generally keep one weapon for each ammo calibre, and switch them out when ammo gets low or I'm going somewhere less/more dangerous. If I have stuff to do in the lower zone, I'm happy to run with a Bizon and a basic AK. When I'm heading north, I use my more advanced stuff. Keeps things fresh for me to keep switching weapons around.

i don't know if this is the way it works now, but basically you had gun damage that was multiplied by a modifier depending on the round the gun fires. basically, the modifier for x39 was higher than x54, so you would get a mosin that dealt more (?) damage, with cheaper rounds. at least that's how I think it worked idk
