Well my setup isnt too fucked but all parts were basically the cheapest i could find or damaged from traveling. Due to it my case is pretty bent at points and my bluetooth and wifi receivers barely work. Only one of my two ram slots work be that due to my cpu missing pins from the bottom or faulty mobo only god knows. Bcs of that im forced to run a single stick of 16gb of ram running at 2666mhz (i wonder why my pc doesent like shoreline and lighthouse). Cant upgrade my 1060 really bcs i bought the cheapest 550w psu and i want to kms when i run games at 1440p which is half the time bcs i change setups everyweek. And if id want to upgrade any of my other parts (ram, cpu, mobo etc) id have to upgrade all of them at the same time due to reasons said previously

And like modern laptops the ram is unupgradable.
Apart from that though the chip itself is revolutionary.

The drivers are fine, really it will come down to developers understanding things like the NEON instruction set.
Also things like cooling probably will play an issue with Mac gaming.
The Mac including Metal API's are probably coded more for workstation use, correct.
Metal is their answer to DX 12 and Vulkan.
Most probably it would be easier to just use Molten though which translates Vulkan calls to Metal.

Yes and no. You have to go to the developers console and enable it. You also need to provide the .so file(like a .dll for Linux)
If the developers don't "enable" it, it won't work.
So escape from tarkov and hunt showdown don't work on Linux because their developers didn't enable EAC.
Neither did Fortnite.
I suspect that Valve twisted their arm and gave them a lot of money to make it run on Linux.
But ultimately it's the developers choice as maybe they don't want the headache of supporting a niche platform sadly.

Also to make non steam games work you usually use a loader like Lutris.
It's a script that downloads stuff like the c++ runtime for windows so that the game thinks it's running on Windows.

WINE and Proton are developed in conjunction with each other but Proton is probably slightly more advanced though mostly created for Steam games.
If you game on Linux, you just have to make compromises but that doesn't mean modern games won't run.

Well, if you look at modern DX 12 games, many also run unoptimised. That's because DX 12 has an entirely different API pipeline to DX 11.

What Proton/WINE do is different.
It directly translates DX calls into Vulkan so it really depends on how well the DX 12/11 engine is written. Vulkan is extremely fast so it wouldn't create a performance penalty on it's own.
But what you are talking about with glitches etc would be the actual Vulkan renderer that probably wasn't written or optimised properly due to inexperience or time.
Since the game isn't translating DX to Vulkan, it's just running Vulkan directly on Windows.
Does that make sense?

So it's up to the skill of the developers to make Vulkan work as good as DX 11.
DX 11 is an old API and it's very well known.
Usually when a toolkit reaches end of life it's when it's used most efficiently and the best titles are written when a console/platform is mature.
Vulkan is so new that not many people know how to use it properly and same with DX 12.
But over time as it becomes more common place it should be a lot better.
It should in theory vastly exceed DX 11.
Vulkan and DX 12 are very low level and a lot of stuff like manual memory management is required. I could see it is easy to make mistakes using that.
Well that's what I understand anyway.
The best example would be the id tech developers at Bethesda who made the Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal games.
They both use can use Vulkan and it gives insane performance.
Because those guys are used to working at a low level with the machine.

If games are built to be cross platform from day one, they should be a lot better.
Valve are pushing considerable resources into this to solve the issue of cross platform as it is becoming apparent that Windows is increasingly becoming more locked down.
Apparently in a few years you'll require an online account to use Windows 11.
And computers require a TPM security module to use it.
This is a direct threat to third party stores/vendors as it means that Microsoft can control the platform the same way Apple does with iOS.
As much as Tim Sweeney hates Linux, really it is his best friend as he's already had issues with Apple and went to court with them about platform restrictions.
