That's actually one of my favorite parts of the design of the game. Audio (even though it's shit) is an important part of the game so you're often really tuned into your body's hearing, which causes an overreaction on sudden sounds.

I think Five Nights at Freddy's 4 did this too, where one of the mechanics was listening very intently to a breathing audio que, which, if you fucked up, resulted in a jump scare. Because you're listening so intently, that jump scare keeps scaring you much, much longer than it normally would.

Anyway, definitely one of my favorite parts about Tarkov.
