M80A1 is the new non FMJ ball round for 7.62x51. It's not classified as a AP round. It's got excellent penetration and it also has fragmentation. M61 is the old 7.62x51 AP round that was steel core. Which were replaced by tungsten core AP rounds.

M80A1 is a far superior round.

It's also not legally purchasable by civilians
