Different headsets in the game have different levels of distortion, EQ across different frequencies (for instance, Sordin and RAC has bass boost, Comtac2 has treble boost) and - most importantly - you hear things at different ranges.
Comtac4s are the best in the game as far as distance you hear people. At very high overencomberance, you can hear people running from 90 METERS away with Comtac4s.
But if you're new, use the best headset you can afford and that you like the sound of. I really like the RAC since I'm using a helmet, anyway. It has nice bass and low distortion, it hears pretty far away, and it's fairly cheap.
Comtac4s are also stupid expensive for this reason. Last I checked, they were going for 100k on flea
And with the dubious Tarkov audio, I'm not sure 100k on Spiderman hearing is worth it.
ANY headset beats the brakes off nothing, though so, keep that in mind for budget builds.
