found a fisheye adapter that fits on that old russian gen 1 Monocular

it actually gathers way more light and makes the fov and perspective almost 1:1 (its 4x without it)

even without the ir illuminator whatsoever, its able to pick up the lights from modern suburbia and show you most of what youre looking at

on a full moon they might even look close to pvs-7

it basically quadruples the FOV and zooms you way back out

drawbacks;
Depth of field goes down even further, but you can still see out to probably 50 feet max if you dial both lenses juuust right

viewing angle starts to get really specific so you have to hold it really mf steady

gets blurry as a mf, max detail takes a nose dive (but if you know fisheye filters this is always assumed to happen)

extra weight on an already bulky contraption

ill try to get pics somehow tonight or tomorrow

but im increasingly confident that if i pick a second one of these that matches the model and zoom perfectly, i could easily add fisheye to both of them and have an absolutely MASSIVE fov

the shit i havent fully worked out:

mounting them to a helmet could get ugly, lots of weight, and the big plastic cases will need to be drilled and secured with nuts/bolts or something

ill need to open them up to at least rewire the power activation buttons and replace them with toggle switches (shouldnt be all that hard i found a tear down)

but if even 70% of this goes smoothly we're talking bino, 80⁰+ fov, analog night vision, for under $300 , bracket and helmet incuded

with the ability to unscrew the wide angle attachments to add more zoom, coated lenses, ect

pretty blurry, probably borderline too dark without moonlight, amd limited in use
