Certain DLCs enable new gameplay features which are quite good and, honestly, should've been included in the base game. Buying the bundle "Jumpship Edition" is quite enough for a good amount of content.

The latest DLC is not included, but it doesn't bring all too much to the table, so you can skip it for a while and buy at a later sale if you'll still like the game enough by that time.

HOTS and LOTKL are worth it which you get in the Jumpship Bundle
Rise of Raselhoff is okay for the Rival Mercs mechanic and the Crusader isn't actually too shabby so if considering would also recommend this.

Call To Farms basically makes the game easier cause melee Mechs are frankly a joke to fight, otherwise adds some nice Biomes
Dragons Cashgrab isn't worth it.

It's a shame that Mechwarrior/Battletech is so heavily focused on the big stompy robots. Like, yeah, that's the whole focus, but they constantly do tanks and fighters dirty so they can justify those big stompy mechs being relevant

the absolute last thing you want to happen is a SRM tank sneaking up on you

because the AI has to be stupid or else they annihilate you

the ones in MW5 are deliberately made to be shit since you can encounter a couple dozen per mission

but if there were honest to god SRM devastators, you'd never survive

lore reason? arty probably is far more effective against tanks and infantry than highly mobile walking fortresses

arty for mechs would likely take the form of AT emplacements
