You'll have opportunities. My usual setup, simple and brainless, is gimballed weapons, laser and autocannons.
Laser to roast shields, autocannons to fuck up the hull. Ideally while targeting the engines or generator subsystems.

For mining, deep core stuff can lead to really gud returns. Trading, check the markets and exploit like crazy the player-owned carriers giving high prices for stuff their owner wants.
Exploration is simple in a way: KGB FOAM and surface scanning far, far away from civilisation.
