So, you know, we have a Sino-Afghan war to look forward to.

But the US really isn't interested in recognizing the Taliban because it would be politically unpopular during election season

no matter what kind of concessions or reforms they agree to

China isn't really taking an aggressive approach to exploiting opportunities in Afghanistan right now

primarily due to all the uncertainty about whether transactions will be subject to US sanctions or if major international banks will actually process those types of transactions

or getting funding to do so

since you need to raise a lot of capital to actually do serious mining in Afghanistan

Afghanistan can have all the rare minerals in the world, but it doesn't have any infrastructure or skilled labor

They're already having some problems in Africa with how they're bringing in Chinese workers for projects in Africa.

Afghanistan can't really organize any of that at the moment due to its lack of international recognition

There are some international companies that still operate in Afghanistan, but they're mostly legacy businesses set up before the fall of the previous government

So they're in an awkward position

hell, most of the government websites in Afghanistan are actually hosted on US based servers, and aren't even managed by the Taliban - the current government even blocks most of them
