improvements will only happen once you start to hit the wall of where your casual skill gets you to

If you play 500 games and then decide you're going to start trying to improve, sure, you've dug a rut you need to work out of, but the whole design of sbmm is that if you play a 1.00 kda average, you get people from 0.95 to 1.05

If you go from a 1.00 to a 1.20 you dont still get people playing at 0.95, now your lower limit is shifted to 1.05.

Playing casually, it will put you where your "resting" performance is.

Playing to improve, you will keep getting harder and harder lobbies until it finds the place where you are no longer performing, take you down a step, see how you do, and repeat until you reach the place where your improvements stop.

If you turn out to be able to play like shroud (random pick) as a result of your practicing and playing to improve, you're going to get placed into those lobbies where people at that level exist.
