Yakuza Kiwami 3 releases on February 12th. At this time, we recommend against pre-ordering the game.

Summary
One of the main villains, Goh Hamazaki, has been recast by Teruyuki Kagawa. Kagawa sexually harassed two hostesses at a club in 2019. The incident itself is disturbing, so details will not be covered here. He offered a public apology and did not work for two years - the case was settled in private.
When his second victim made a statement later, Kagawa refused to apologise - he called her story "distorted", expired and invalid.

__How does this affect Kiwami 3? __
Kagawa's actions stand against everything the Yakuza series champions; doing the right thing, treating people with respect and standing up for others.
RGG and SEGA have been removing or hiding messages that contain #RemoveKagawa - they can hear us, and they're trying to keep us quiet. The Yakuza series has always taken a firm stance against all forms of sexual abuse and this casting decision does not reflect these values.

Our advice is to wait.

  • Hold off on pre-ordering the game until RGG/SEGA address Kagawa.
  • You can still buy Kiwami 3 used or a PC key without supporting RGG directly.
  • Sign the petition and support the boycott.
    SEGA have recast characters before, such as Tanimura and Hamura, even at launch; there is still time.
