it all boils down to how much they'll allow people to mod it
whereas with the source code, you can do anything with it. How the engine handles what you do is an entirely different subject though
I’d still count stability, it took an immense amount of work just to make X-Ray any semblance of stable without heavy mods on top of it
And in theory importing or grafting features on to UE5 should be a lot easier. High fidelity asset importation especially.

That's on the fanbase, not the engine. I'm pretty sure Bethesda lets you do almost whatever you want, and yet most of the mods are boobas and tacticool guns, if the fanbase wants to have bloodsucker sex simulator that's what you will get regardless of the capabilites of the modding tools 
while true, not having access to the source code means adding new mechanics is probably nightmare-inducing.
Which is probably why we don't see those for Fallout 4 but they exist in STALKER

at least since I've come back, it's only been happening in settlements (in my case Zalissya since I'm still in the Lesser Zone).

something I noticed, now they warn you before attacking, and MIGHT even not attack if you back off quick enough

My biggest problem is how tanky the high tier mutants are, especially the giants.
Fighting humans, at least early game, is much less horrible and feels very close to the originals now, with enemies taking (bad) cover and flanking you instead of just standing up in the open and spray you with 100% accuracy. Now accuracy is like 80%, not great, but is better I guess.

I know you can get the Spark SEVA in Yantar or the spark heavy suit in Malachite if you so wish, but I don't wish. There is also a 100% condition Kharod and SAIGA in Yantar so that place is great if you know how to navigate it.

deadass spent 150-ish hours just walking around going down every hole and trying every door I could find
my 3rd run was pretty much just zig zag to all the good stuff, literally meeting SKEEFA while already wearing all the Spark endgame gear

yeah I really like how you can run getting a good kit quick with how open everything is and if you memorized the spots, similar to the OG's
it pays to explore (and ignore every normal stash otherwise)

selling stacks of 100 cheese wedges found in random stashes at a time just because there's too many in my stash
Mosin Nagant covers an interesting niche tho, I didn't even realize how much I needed an early game sniper before, the lummox AK ain't it
Lummox is just good enough to let you fight a bit further out but it's not exactly hard hitting or particularly accurate
it's basically AK Clusterfuck in that regard, but worse in every way
what I really want someone to mod in are some of the Vepr hunter variants down the line
basically just thumbhole stock civilian AK's in a variety of calibers and with smaller mag sizes, but "accurized"

If there's one thing I do like, it's how they make a point of saying the remaining Mercs in the Zone are relatively few in number but far more dangerous... and imo their kit design reflects it well. Dudes like Hog look like absolute beasts, just wish they didn't get jobbed for story reasons.
They look more intimidating and professional compared to the OG trilogy Mercs, where they were just privately funded stalkers. Here, they look closer to Ward, more PMC less stalkery

I was just at the slag heap, and the guard post outside to the north I think it was, it got attacked by two bloodsuckers. The loners defending slag heap actually handled it well, one group got in cover by the gate to protect it, and two duos started searching for the bloosuckers. we killed them with zero casualties and another stalker yells something like "good shit guys, we did it!" after scanning to make sure we were safe
I had like 4 of them spawn in mid-air - about 6ft off the ground - as other NPCs in the surrounding area just shot them like pinatas until they died 
it was pretty silly, especially since there was only 1 flesh model visually showing in the air. However, as each one died, a corpse would suddenly spawn and fall outta nowhere.
My favorite part about this video is the horrid ghosting.

Nah, I still remember the encounter in Agroprom underground in Shadow of Chernobyl.
The sudden roar after leaving the staircase and something invisible just rushing at you, making you damn near shit your pants.

Yeah the bloodsucker just going still and doing the dramatic roar and pose while inducing stun just feels off.

Fr. I shouldnt be bummed out of achievements for a single player game. With the old A-Life, used to run into problems with them spawning behind or sometimes on top of me, and instantly killing me before I can react. Had to download a shay mod to adjust their AI. It ended up making them feel more difficult, similiar to gamma instead of bulletsponges with aimbot
GSC's reasoning for disabling achievements when mods are introduced to the game is because they (mostly Microsoft forcing them) fear people using console commands to enable things like god mode, infinite ammo, and so forth. So I can understand that, but at the same time there are people (like me) who don't mod their games to cheat. And, as you said, it is a single player game, so who cares what people do with their playthroughs, eh?

I heard shooting near the factory/boiler building where you save one of Richter's squad members from bandits in the beginning of the game. Military guys were there duking it out with loners, and then I found Valik amongst the dead once everything calmed down.

actually that does bring up one point; stalkers in Cordon/Lesser Zone have no way to get to the rest of the Zone unless they can navigate the Warden pontoon bridge checkpoint in offline mode since iirc they wont try and cross the ford to get from Cordon into Wild Island/Zaton

Well, GSC did the first SDK release on the 25th alongside the 1.5 patch, and there is Steam Workshop mod support, so now?
They clearly made up a gun to make the handgun revolver thing be real, but then it made the gun nuts mad regardless 
The complains about real guns existing are kinda valid, but I'm pretty sure they had the Desert Eagle in and changed their mind for a revolver last second because it was cooler
You legitimately get better performance from .45 ACP out of a revolver barrel than you would 9x39
I, for one, I'm not mad that the 1911 is the best handgun in the game, I'm gonna take it

Frankly my only real problem with the revolver is I think it looks terrible. If they’re doing 9x39 for some reason and cooking a complete mashup design, make it something that works like the Nagant 1895 where the cylinder presses over the barrel extension to form a gas seal and then have it able be suppressed for maximum memes
Nah he's right about the rsh tho, just I don't think GSC wanted to make a whole ass ammo only for one gun that wasn't the gauss and diverged from the og design in a more generic revolver, this after they dcided that deagle wasn't it anymore

Southwest would make for an interesting duty and freedom battle zone but then again neither of them are particularly close, and Duty is busy in the north
Oh yeah the other area I think could use some love is the sand quarry part of Wild Territory, before you reach the train depot to Zaton proper
Yeah, but it's the only way I could think of to make that area populated without having loners, who apparently have ignored that zone up until now, suddenly appear with settlements because you finished some main quests

I also think you might need some guidance towards Cordon, you can technically go there right after you leave the lesser zone, but there is no real reason nor breadcrumb quest to direct you there. NOt that there is anything fantastic to get, but it's a beginner area that you visit fairly late, all the loot you get is pretty much outdated.
The place is lousy with bandits as well as mutants at a few of the camps so could be framed as a sweep and clear op for duty and maybe they can grab army Warhouses since the place is deserted other than some mercs that ambush you
Yeah I wish Cordon was worked in a bit earlier. Would be nice to have some more early game filler stuff to do there akin to how lesser zone is packed with easy side quests

I have stumbled across a lot more interactions though with 1.5, than I would have around launch. Ex. bandits fighting loners, freedom duty shootouts, etc, but still meh

they added mutant skinning which, its a good thing they added it but tbh it does not add a lot to the game at all. they havent even added a vendor for the hunting stand in rostoks bazar
I figured when they added mutant looting it would come in a whole package with hunters, hunting side missions, etc.

First off not everyone is a programmer, second off there's only so many people that can work on a single issue simultaneously, so you will have specialized "taskforces" that are taking on the bigger issues whilst the smaller bugs are distributed amongst remaining devs.
Debugging doesn't really scale with availabe manpower

I've also heard that a lot of the regions just have nothing going on with them - quest and NPC wise - so they're just barren lands lol. Like sure you can explore them, but that gets boring after a while too with no purpose set in place for said regions.

What they really need to do now is increase the online A-Life radius to something like 200m, not sure how that's gonna work due to performance but it has to happen, and then give us binoculars back that also show the red and green borders around hostile/friendlies for scouting. Especially now that there's so much nature in the way of seeing things

Agreed + make it so you can get more than 1 repeatable quest at a time from bartenders as well; that way when you finish at least 1 quest from them, you're able to pick up other optional quests they had for you right away.

My current playthrough is a totally vanilla run with only reshade on.
there are no repetitive sidequests only like from barkeep etc.. random stalkers must give sidequests like bring item/artefact , kill group of bandits, mutants etc

I had that happen to me once, actually, even without using that mod. There was a console command you could input to cancel the quest for whichever NPC you got it from iirc.
I'm not sure how great that works with them roaming around and constantly dying and your quest failing

I really just think GSC could learn a lot more about what players wanna see in their game if they peer into their communities just a bit more - especially the modding communities.
I think the issue with that is that in the older games/overhauls, those quests would target already spawned things in the offline a-life while the quests now work different and will spawn in the specific target instead. That's a big L for questing in this game, makes it feel less alive than actually knowing whatever your target is was already there before accepting quests
I'm sure they did, a lot of features show that too, they probably just didn't have the experience, time and money to keep going before release. Doesn't excuse it but probably that's the reason.

Stalker without mods has always been a more arcade shooter with an extremely atmospheric setting and world building

in the lesser zone next to the electrical anomaly zone there are still a lot of NPCs and mutants spawning

Definitely needs another year in the oven; the biggest changes they've brought about are the 2 new guns (mosin-nagant & Kortha 1911 pistol) and mutant looting is now in the game by default. I guess AI is a little better, too, and they won't simply disappear once they're out of your vision. Now, they have randomly set paths throughout the zone, and they'll essentially keep moving from spot to spot until something or someone else kills 'em.
Personally, though, I still consistently get memory leaks and my fps will wither down to like 5-10 fps. It's horrible, but sometimes just quitting back to main menu and loading a save fixes it. Otherwise just have to close the whole game and re-launch it lol.
So I'll be considerably happier with GSC once they can finally figure out their game's goofy ass performance problems.
imo changing A-life online radius wont do with making the zone feel more alive, the individual zones need more interaction and "sense", it needs more types of quests, more interactivity, more rng

I wrote earlier on in the channel, but plenty of the regions in-game just simply need more "purpose" thrown into them. Otherwise exploration just gets super bland and boring after a while.

Did some Googling afterwards, and I realized you literally get locked out of certain areas and/or features in the game based on your decision. Excellent job with that one, GSC. I stopped my playthrough then and there.

I never use 5.45 (I'm a nato gun user) and always play on the easiest difficulty for gamma so...
I usually play Merc/Freedom and even I have shoot at least once a 5.45 weapon at someone.

They essentially spawn in unique named anomaly fields marked with the special unique icon related to said anomaly field.
at the 20 minute mark, complaining that NPCs no longer take you wherever you want is cheap considering that this is a good change, this feature was a cheap copout to having to plan and walk back and forth towards objectives and bases
tho the larger point is right, there were more interections beetween NPCs mainly bc there was no need for VA, but I do hope we never see the hey random guy, take me to this place mechanic again
Guys, I have a 2060 video card, super version of Ryzen 7 3700 X and 32 gigs of RAM, the game runs at 90 - 40 fps in populated areas. Is this normal or is there something wrong with me?

2060 is "fine" while i struggled to have a consistent 60 FPS on a 3060 TI with Ryzen 5 5600 on medium settings

Is it normal for some merchants to not have their inventories clear out once they restock their items? As a for instance, the loner trader in the Chemical Plant region is holding like 400 KGs worth of items that I've sold him over time lol. He seems to restock new weapons every now and then, but yeah everything I sell him just sits in his inventory and never disappears...
On a vanilla playthrough btw with 0 mods.

I also use ultra plus mod, with DLSS and frame Gen I get 70-100 fps depending on location
