People are way too used to the tweaked to fuck modded stalker AI which still also randomly breaks all the time just like it does in the base trilogy
The S2 spawner system is far from good and the initial spawn radius was so tiny it’s hilarious
But I remember how fucking bad the base A-Life is in SOC/CS/COP
Luckily, as stalkers we are patient and we know that it can take a few years before the game will be polished, the modding tools released and some big mods like gamma will be done

Frankly most of my problems with S2 AI comes from the fact they move really predictably and seem to really like open ground, which is probably more to do with the fact that there’s a lot more open ground. Firefights in the open in Jupiter or Zaton in CoP weren’t exactly thrilling either
Anyone tried the last patch did it improve performance or its still bad?
Some of the AI mods out now speed them up a bit and have them do extra combat actions more often (dodge, juke, cover, position change) which helps them feel a bit more dynamic
I'm staying on 1.1.3 until I know which mods might be broken, I've put way too much time into this and I just want to play my broken game for a while

So judging by a mod as large as MHM being unaffected by 1.1.4, I would probably say it's probably safe to update for someone with a large modlist, yeah? With it being mostly memory and performance fixes, most mods should be mostly untouched, right? I'm just really anxious about updating, after all the work I've done and help I've gotten.

F.E.A.R is one of my favorite games, and its AI is extremely impressive, but its also not actually as smart as it appears. The voicelines and everything really sell it.
for example, the reason enemies flank you so often isn't because they decide to, but because fake obstacles are left when enemies move, so when a guard takes a path, all the other AI will seek another path of less resistance to the player

FEAR's AI works largely on selling you the illusion. They're actually kinda basic.
Sure, for 2005 they were amazing, but like Sectric said it's mostly the voice quips from the soldiers that give you the impression that they're being tacticool

Honestly even this is the least painful endgame from a stalker series. There was the bug with Granite one-tapping you but that was the fucking norm at CNPP/Monolith War Lab except there they also stuck their arms through thin walls to do it or getting instagibbed down long corridors
I spent so many fucking hours just getting through Jupiter underground in CoP trying to keep my fucking retards alive too even if the actual ending itself is a wet fart
And then the last section of Clear Sky is actual pure hell which then terminates at a boss fight that bugs out 3/4 times
Sorry best I can do is current S2 alife with spawns spread out and populated in a larger radius for us to run into

the sdk is not gonna give modders as much freedom as they have with X-Ray engine's source code for the first game.
If it gives us access to existing bps and adding bps. I think that would give us quite a bit of freedom. If it gives us access to their plugin functions then that would pretty much let us change most things.

Cooling Towers was apparently supposed to have a pretty involved Duty questline involving lab X-12 which is actually still under the map there as a fully modeled but empty area

Duty/Freedom faction war resumption post-SIRCAA definitely got trimmed down a lot
There are so many references to it by NPCs but nothing really changes

when I went to rostok and saw the Duty boi just go full suicidal inside the bar and getting clapped I was hoping for more faction based content to open up but alas, nothing of the sort. You get a couple more secondary quests and that's it, main story until the end of days.

To be fair, yes. Game has insane sandbox potential, open world was definitely the best way to go, too bad a lot of it is definitely wasted. Now, I don't really want every corner to have something interesting (all in all the south of the zone should be almost completely plundered), but some more stuff to do in regard to like Freedom, Duty, maybe even scientists, some secondary storylines, the hunters being actually integrtated in the game instead of being a secondary quest throwaway "faction" or profession or whatever etc

yeaaaaaah. What currently exists in-game is this: 2 random stalker squads occasionally spawn near the player, and they'll fight things out. Sometimes it'll be a group of mutants instead fighting a stalker squad, but that's about all you're gonna find going on as random scenarios in the zone.

Honestly a think any sort of freeplay style mod wouldn't really be fun unless the world encounters and such become alot more dynamic and mutants have more behaviors and stuff. I enjoy the game as it is but I feel like that's in large part due to the narrative

Don't know if it actually fixes anything, but seems to come with a 10-15 fps loss during sprint and the occasional lag spike. So things blur and slow down for fun

Update drivers and all that good stuff, and make sure not to run it on Epic. Maybe High and set only select settings to Epic. There's plenty of guides that should help you.
Yea its on SSD. Wasent this bad at launch, not sure what's going on. Even optimized with Nvidia and changingung setting to lower dosent really change angthing

80 fps feels like 30 fps in this game, without frame gen it feels awful but then you'll have input lag which is equally as awful. Maybe there's mods that'll help but that defeats the purpose of how bad this game truly is
Game does feel a bit sluggish after coming from like fucking mullet mad jack tbh, but I've not had any input lag at all. Last time someone had this kind of issues it was something with nvidia app fucking the framerate up

I think the mods there are in denial about just how much work there is that actually needs to be done though in order to bring it into any sort of parity with "classic" a-life
Well what I know from ripping things apart. They're both right on various points. Most of their arguments are actually agreements, but they're viewing it differently.

Totally. my personal prediction is that it will fall somewhere in the middle. "old" a-life is probably not coming back by GSC's first-party hands alone, but I do expect to see big improvements in areas where it's possible to do so given the current (and technically outdated) UE5 build's limitations.
wherever they decide to draw the line on S2 is where the mod community will inevitably pick it up, and from there the sky is (sort of) the limit depending on how complete and intimate the SDK ends up being
They already have the foundation to include contextual actions npc types. It's just not fully implimented. The blinddogs are an example of this when they do a sniff before going after something.
They have the basic triggers for scenarios currently but that can be made more specific.

There are also alife lairs that dictate how the spawns will act. Whether it's aggresive/normal/defensive

At least, based on my current understanding of the limitations GSC has faced thus far, and the way other developers have talked about UE5
These systems were working in old builds though limited. There's no reason they can't get them working again. One of the many reasons I have a feeling they lost that data and are doing salvage. It seems pretty clear they're getting outside help to even get it into this state.
They're rebuilding basic stuff that should have been done a long time ago. Collisions channels/profiles should not be the mess they're in if they had the old builds to pull from directly. Part of the performance issue is related to those being misconfigured or incomplete.

I haven't dug around in the guts like you have so I'm hesitant to make any final judgements on the technical side of what's actually possible, what you're describing all seems legitimate to my unfamiliar eyes. from an outsider's perspective mostly all I can personally do is speculate future developments based on factors like microsoft's involvement, corporate decisions being made from a financial perspective, etc. I do hope GSC takes notes and inspiration from "no man's sky," "cyberpunk 2077" and similar but ultimately, businesses do run on money and it's obvious their hand was forced to release the game in the state it's currently in. Even with the best intentions, there is only so much time you can put into something out of love before the accounts run dry and you have to shift priorities

Particularly on PC I don't think anything is (technically speaking) insurmountable, but if contractual obligations require XBOX a-life to work the same as PC a-life... that may be a stickier issue

Yes and no. GSC Game World is a private company. Any funding from Microsoft, or any other third party company, had to be given via a strict legal agreement that regulates everything related to the development, including the release date. Every third party company funding the game had to agree to all of the past release date changes. It's hard to blame Microsoft since they already agree on a lot of these.
Thats how forced out development goes
The issue is the way they're doing the render bubble in my opinion. Alife should be viewable in a large radius(400m) only the lairs/hubs/quests should go online/offline closer than that. 40-60 alife isn't really taxing when it's spread out properly. The environment/collisions/texture optimization is killing the game currently.

Interesting. What's your experience/perspective on the offline simulative framework currently in S2? Based on what I've read from several modders it seems that there is some structure for it, but that it (like many other things) simply is not implemented. Does that seem like a system that could function after being implemented for the entire zone map, even without the load barriers like old games had to reduce overhead?
I had to jailbreak offline out of pause hell... that's where it's at haha
it's speculation of course, but I don't doubt MS just went "aight that's enough, no more delays"
It's like two wonky connected issues that need to get ironed out separately, but also work so closely in tandem that you can't isolate them
between offline and the spawn bubble and UE physics calculations
Basically vanilla is keep spawns close to render bubble and most of them happen at the edges so you wander into them. when things go offline they pause unless the game feels you intend to move towards them. This gives the appearence they were there all along
If you took the invisible curtain down they'd just be standing there. We accidently did this in 1.0.3
We turned on offline and 1.0.3 didn't have the curtain so we could see them stop at the edge.
Only realized what that meant after 1.1 was released
Then when we were looking to increae render bubble distance. I stumbled onto a section for blacklist/whitelist and redirected it to bad location. I thought perhaps that would give us render control back. Instead it took offline out of pause hell so they just wander about their business.
This example shows the AI Director simulating movement for offline NPCs. The distance/pace can be different from the pace you witnessed them entering offline with. Also offline also works on lower tick rate from online so they're only be updating after a certain time period. So it's fairly easy for us to catch and have it appear as if they haven...
That's really cool, and a nice surprise frankly because I did not expect much of a fleshed framework for that at all based on the state of the rest of S2 at this point from a player perspective. This is totally tangential to the issue at hand, but I wonder how optimized the lighting is—if it were possible to free up resources there somehow for use elsewhere, and also ideally make dynamic lighting exist and not dogshit for at least the 2-3 important ones you'd encounter in the game

holy hell ya, virtual radio silence on that one. I think GSC is being very smart by being cautious about their actual communications regarding patches, their promised roadmap, and similar. It's always a huge mistake to over promise and under-deliver, not only regarding timelines for patches/hotfixes and similar but also content. Best to just shut up and work, and hopefully surprise people in a positive way

I have to think they'll probably wait on the SDK until they've gotten all the way through their DLC. Stalker 2 is absolutely worth buying imo, it’s definitely better than at release though granted I somehow dodged most of the issues people were having then too
Vanilla can still get a bit frustrating due to enemy scaling (lol everyone turns into heavy armor or exos post-SIRCAA) and the spawn system but it’s still really fun. Ending is a little rushed and might be a slog depending how geared you are for it, but honestly at least there’s actual payoff unlike CoP and it doesn’t bug out like CS.
Spiritually it’s far closer to SoC
I would describe it as "worth the cash, but with lots and lots of room for improvement"
If you're on the fence about it and $60 or however much you plan on spending in whatever currency is an amount that is significant to you (it really should be regardless of what sort of budget you have, but I digress), then my advice would just be... wait.

I have never, ever considered Stalker to be on some kind of storytelling pedestal, through the entire trilogy the story has always been a paper thin veneer that gives me an excuse to play with the fun world and game mechanics. S2 is the first stalker game where it's the story, not the gameplay itself so much, that kept me pushing forward (especially my first playthrough before even the first A-life patch, where the world was basically utterly dead and boring)
UE5 can do such incredible dynamic flashlight/lighting sources and it’s just all turned off entirely for this dinky little pen light
The fact that some people hold SoC up to be some kind of narrative masterclass and S2 is "bad storytelling, ruined characters, muh lore" is just bizzarre to me. Some of these people were barely even characters

DLSS4 also applies to the 4 and 3 series, it's just multi-frame generation that's restricted to the 5 series (and also certain functions like ray reconstruction or w/e are going to work less well on the 3 series for instance, in theory, based on my understanding)
People who forced it earlier via .dll have been saying the difference is pretty stark, but who knows

You probably have multiple mods attempting to change the same value in the weapons config
You’re just going to have to trial and error removing/adding them until you figure out which is conflicting with which
But it sounds to me that the culprit is NPC weapon attachments since I’ve heard other people had crashing issues with equipping picked up NPC guns with attachments using that mod
I’d start there
Make sure you get rid of any buggy NPC sourced weapons you’ve picked up first though, I’m not sure how they’ll interact with your save file if you try and remove the mod and then load up with one of the already bugged ones equipped/in inventory

@tidal escarp It's an unresolved conflict of two mods trying to change localisation.pak (description texts are part of the localisation.pak) that is causing your calibre texts to show up that way. Maybe give the unified localisation mod a look. If that doesn't help resolve the conflict, you can attempt merges via a different mod.

As for what is causing the crashes - without error message that is nearly impossible to say but I'd guess its related to the same issue.

it didnt help, but i know the issue, NPC Carry Attachments Balanced Rank Restricted is the problem. when im deactivating this mod current save is crashing so i think i have to play with this mod activated and with this bugs. i dont want to restart the gameplay so 😄 stay safe stalkers

DLSS 3 and other Temporal effects are also useless on Full HD monitors because they create ghosting and other blurry artifacts. You need at least 2k monitor to have dlss and TAA usable without image quality loss
