I love automatons, I rarely feel like I am put into situations I literally cannot do anything against unlike bugs. With the bugs if I get delt a bad hand with spawning they just endlessly horde me before I can get my bearing

As scary as rocket devestators are, every non super heavy automaton else than striders can be nearly instantly dispatched with a solid headshot

bugs are so damn annoying because the only viable survivability is to never be hit since you will get slowed and lose limbs so often, and they are always faster than you anyway

It's pretty good on squids imo, the armor penetration is not really necessary there and the bayonet helps out with clearing swarms, especially if you mix it with either peak physique or the new armors

The stamina cost is not a problem imo

But when I use melee weapons, I commit to it, so I don't retreat until the enemies are dead

You can still swing with 0 stamina and there are really no consequences in doing so

The stun baton and the lance are also especially good since they... well, stun targets

The drawback is that they deal less damage than the axe

The only issue I have with dedicated melee weapons is that I need to pull them out first

If I'm already swarmed when I decide to switch to melee then I may take some hits before I start swinging
