If there's issues with players building a coupon monopoly then that's probably only concerning them due to decreased trade volume - meaning less G$ being bought overall. If they want to get rid of botting then make coupons tradable once or x-amount of times. but that'd mean a decrease in trade volume and even more G$ stagnation

So I've been analyzing my network traffic and found some curious router CPU usage spikes. Traced it back to times I played WT and figured it's some rouge packages created by BOTH warthunder and eac. So my hardware is beefier than most with desktop grade CPU and 64gb ram for the wan node but even that almost got to a point were it had to reboot.

Anyone notice network issues while playing? I'm curious if this is a widespread and more common issue.

Still analyzing the game traffic and why it does this, maybe I do a detailed bug report

I now went through 2 years of logs and traced it all back to the latest updates, mainly 13th march 2024 and more recent 19th june

were it gets really weird is that these issues affect my local network, one instance even interrupted part of my storage cluster, so I had to put game traffic (which is anyways going through a VPN to the server the game is running) through a VLAN to my PC. Checking the package size they vary greatly from the engine while EAC's are pretty uniform. I've read about some malicious software having similar properties so the schizo in me starts to think they run some shady data collection or even some sort of trojan

big fucking red flag, haven't seen this with any other online game so far

I don't pretend that the country of origin has nothing to do with my assumptions here. Maybe I'll try routing my traffic through a server in Kazakhstan and see if it changes behavior

I changed the routing through a VPN in hungary and that package issue completely stopped

Check your not running DDoS mitigation or any sort of filtering on the router.
If all else fails get a new router.
There is no magic in that traffic that should impact your router.
If it's a cheapass software router and everything is processed on CPU then it makes sense to see a spike in cpu when there is a spike if traffic.

my router is a custom built machine that runs a homebrew linux OS, specs are probably better than an average gaming PC so it's not a hardware issue

plus the traffic from the VM to my pc would only be the UI and controls, there shouldn't be any game traffic reaching my LAN

and the VPN thing would point to a config issue too, I used mullvads connection instead of the config from the server provider so that's most likely the key issue

Look into opensense, pfsesne, mikrotik, vyos, these are all pretty light weigh and pretty reputable.

Sophos firewall has a home version too, but that's heavy, but really powerful filtering.
I used untangle in the past too.

It would all be done on CPU, so it makes sense the more traffic you put across the more the CPU should pick up.

Have a look at the fastpath rules and have a close look at any other filtering and stuff you have setup

They have guides for this.
You want to make sure you are not inspecting or trying to look too closely at packets when you should just be forwarding it

The reason this traffic showed up was due to the irregularity. All packages are buffered at all times but only unexpected events are filtered and stored for review besides the logs. This is all done by a different machine either so nothing to do with that router
